What constitutes a social network, and what is social media marketing? A social network is any platform such as websites or apps that allow social interactions between people or allow the creation of personal relationships. This is places such as Facebook, TikTok, Instagram, LinkedIn, Threads, and much more. People are able to join groups, post, comment, and message other users on almost all of these sites. This allows people to communicate with each other who would not be able to meet otherwise. Using real-world examples, explain two types of social media strategies used by companies. As social media grows as well as the influencers on them companies are using these influencers to reach a younger demographic. Influencers have made a huge impact on consumer purchase. A big trend on social media currently is the saying “TikTok made me buy it”. This means that consumers have been so swept up in the popularity of a product from several influencers that they felt it was necessary they had to try this product. Being able to pay people to promote your product and give positive feedback has made it extremely easy for companies to expand their range of customers. Real time marketing has also become a popular method of reaching consumers. This has been done by push notifications through apps like Amazon, DoorDash, Uber, and so many others. Many shopping apps like Amazon or SHEIN send notifications when something in your cart is running low or if there is a deal in something you were interested in. Other apps like TikTok or Instagram send push notifications whenever someone or even a brand page goes live or posts something. This alerts the user to look whenever they are available too. Describe two major alternative marketing programs. Stealth marketing is also another way that companies are trying to market to consumers and get real results. With all of the ads that people are bombarded with these days companies must begin to get clever with their marketing approaches to be able to stand out from the rest. Word of mouth (as old fashion as that sounds) is still and effective way to market. Doing right by the customer and making sure their experience is a good one will always be a good form of marketing that is also free. Many people confide in
one another for recommendations when they do not feel like being bombarded with ads or tons of different companies. When I am looking for new products, I still tend to ask around and see what has worked best for the people in my life. For the brand you selected, locate one example of social media marketing and one example of alternative marketing. Share the link of the ad in your discussion post and explain the strategy behind it. This ad makes consumers feel as if they will be able to do everything when they use this product. Instead of having to worry about your deodorant wearing off you can live a full and exciting day knowing that this product has you covered. This specific image was taken from the popular Netflix show Ginny & Georgia. When consumers get connected with a movie or show they tend to feel for the characters involved.
