Prior to beginning work on this discussion, read Chapter 17: Leadership, Organization, and Corporate Social Responsibility in your text. This response will be added as a section to your final paper. Consumers throughout the world expect that companies conduct business in an ethical and socially responsible way. Socially conscious companies should include human rights, labor, and environmental issues in their agenda. In your initial post, Identify at least three ways global companies can demonstrate their commitment to corporate social responsibility (CSR). Provide an example when a specific company, such as your mentor company, demonstrated commitment to CSR. According to Green & Keegan (2020), Chapter 17 outlines several corporate social responsibility (CSR) for international companies. Here are at least three ways global companies can demonstrate CSR that I’ve captured: Environmental Responsibility - This start by transitioning to renewable energy, reducing their carbon footprint and working with the available clean energy solutions. They also invest and incubate in green technologies and eco-friendly ways of producing goods or services. This is great for the environment and makes the company look like an innovative leader. They may also noticed how much the people like their new clean green initiative and decide to start taking on environmental projects with the local community where their roots are deep. This can be very impactful as actions sometimes speak louder than words and most people trust and enjoy working with the group that they can tell actually cares. Ethic Responsibility - This starts with employees being treated fairly, materials being sources responsibly and environmental laws being followed. Commitment goes beyond doing things for the company and includes, being there and working with the community, taking on local development projects, ensuring the company promotes diversity and inclusion and promote ethical practices in its global supply chain. If a company respects human rights and labor rights throughout its operations, from headquarters to global supplier, it shows the company cares about what happens to the people and the communities impacted by their work. Philanthropic Responsibility - This starts with moving beyond generic donations and engaging in meaningful partnerships with vetted non-profit organizations who have the resources and expertise to launch major initiatives on issues like poverty, climate change, educational disparities. They can launch employee volunteer programs. They can make valuable in-kind donations of their products or services and they can actually co-develop new and innovative solutions alongside their partners.
Uber has shown its dedication towards the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) by undertaking multi-dimensional initiatives to revolve around their issues like sustainability, driver welfare and community engagement. The ridesharing company has established some goals to transform into a zero-emission platform by 2040 with a heavy investment in electric vehicle adoption and a huge affinity towards micromobility options (Shieber, 2020). This is concurrent to Uber’s efforts to prioritize on ensuring the welfare of its drivers, promising fair earnings, social protection and most importantly, flexible work models (Uber, n.d.). Believing in the purpose and taking advantage of how it’s so focused on its mission, Uber was able to further offer millions of free rides and meals to essential workers and vulnerable groups, following the outbreak of the pandemic (Marcos, 2020). These proactive efforts go beyond simply adhering to regulations, reflecting a genuine desire to make a positive difference in the world, earning Uber recognition as a responsible corporate citizen.
