W01 Worksheet: Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) Instructions Read and watch the article and videos on I-Learn. Answer the questions below. Question Answer BYU-Idaho ED 361
1. Based on the information presented, what are the components of a successful PLC? PLC’s must be completed in a group setting where the teachers can discuss with each other what the best strategies will be. They must be done beforehand and should also come together to discuss their strategies after. Big Idea #2 discussed collaboration between many staff members. Some that are in your own area of study and others in different will make a difference to how you approach your teaching and what the best situation will be. On page 9 and 10 it says, “Team members identify strengths and weakness in student learning and begin to discuss how they can build on the strengths and address weaknesses.” The biggest goal that teachers should have in mind is, “what will be the best way that the students will learn?” In Big Idea #1 is says that the things that you should focus on with struggling students are being timely, based on intervention, and directive. Big Idea #3 talks about looking at the results. In the video it showed a data wall that tracks student achievement. If we don’t track their achievement than as teachers, we won’t know if it is helping or if we need to change up strategies to ensure the best learning for our students. The last and one of the most important steps is that teachers need to be fully committed to working together to create an environment of learning for their students. When they work hard their students will notice and rise up when they know they are cared about. 2. How can students work as a PLC in an online class environment? One way that Students can work together in a PCL in an online environment is to discuss together in zoom meetings. It is the most effective way to talk and collaborate while being miles away from each other. Another way they can discuss is through a discussion board. This can be where they can share results and information that doesn’t need to be discussed with immediate feedback. BYU-Idaho ED 361
