This week, you are learning more about reading and retention in the textbook, in addition to exploring some of SNHU’s many amenities (resources) for students. Taking these things into consideration, and considering that success is intentional, work to address the following: 1. How does knowing more about yourself enable you to find the “right” resources to draw upon? Now, provide an example of a time when you talked yourself out of using a resource or asking for help. What caused that internal conversation to occur, or what made you hesitate? How might you overcome that hesitation in the future? 2. As you look at your available resources, what is one SNHU resource/amenity that you can draw upon to help you intentionally reach your goals? What is a resource outside of SNHU that will assist you as well? Explain why you chose these resources and how they will help you achieve intentional success. To know yourself means to know all your strengths and weaknesses when doing an assignment. During high school in one of my math classes the teacher gave us notes on the whiteboard. This would take a majority of the class time, then they would give us homework. The next day the teacher would ask if we had any trouble with the homework, but no one asked for any help. I was in an honor course, so I felt ashamed and embarrassed to ask for any help in front of the class. I realized more into the school year that I was not the only one. Many people in the class also had problems with understanding the work, but were also too scared to ask in front of the class. Since I did not ask any questions throughout the class, I did not do as well as I did in all my other math classes. After seeing my final grade and how impacted it was because I did not ask for help, whenever I was confused or didn’t understand something I would ask the teacher. For example in my statistics class during a subject called probability I was really confused on how the teacher answered the question in the notes. I looked around the classroom and others seemed confused as well. Instead of doing nothing I raised my hand and asked if she can redo the notes with a different problem, after she did the class and I seemed to have understood the notes better than before. Out of the many SNHU resources and amenities they provide, the most helpful in my opinion would be the writing center. Something that I struggle the most in school is writing essays and assignments. Although I improved greatly throughout the years, I still feel that I am not the best at it, and that I can always improve on it. The writing center will most definitely help me with this, as they give us feedback on any paper that we turn
in to them. Resources outside of SNHU that I will use would be youtube and KhanAcademy. These resources are very helpful when it comes to subjects such as math and science, more than english. Throughout high school, whenever I did not grasp a concept in my math or science class, I would go to these resources to see if there are any tutoring videos on it. Most of the time these sources do have the perfect video that will explain the concept I am having trouble on.
