(Total 35 points) Find the simplest form of each of the following fractions: 1. 20/40 = 2/4=1/2 2. 4/6 = 2/3 3. 12/54 =6/27=2/9 4. 8/12= 2/3 5. 16/28 = 4/7 Find the quotient in the following fractions. Round to two decimal places. 1. 2/5 = .40 2. ¾ =.75 3. 7/8 = .88 4. 107/98 = 1.09 5. 54/65 =.83 Round to one decimal place or nearest tenth. 1. 19.76 =19.8 2. 34.623=34.6 3. 172.87= 172.9
4. 99.98 = 100.0 5. 125.969 = 126.0 Round to two decimal places. 1. 8.36801 = 8.37 2. 14.5264 = 14.53 3. 0.87642 = 0.88 4. 27.99999 = 28.0 5. 15.90176= 15.90 Complete the following conversions. Fractions to percentages (round to one decimal place): 1. 5/8 = 0.625 x 100= 62.5% 2. 3/5 = 0.6 x100= 60 % 3. 2/4 = 1/2 = 0.5 x 100= 50% 4. 7/12 = 0.58333 x100= 58.3% 5. 3/15 = 1/5 = 0.2 x100=20 % Decimals to percentages (round to one decimal place): 1. 0.28 = 0.28/1 x 100/100= 28/100= 0.28 = 28%
2.0.07 =0.07/1 x 100/100= 7/100= 0.07= 7% 3. 0.1254= 0.1254/1 x 100/100 = 12.54/100= 0.1257 =12.54% 4. 0.4299 = 0.4299/1 x 100/100 =42.99/1000=4299= 42.99%= 43% 5. 0.9981= 0.9981/1 x 100/100= 99.81/100= 0.9981 = 99.81% Percentages to decimals: 1. 12% = 12/100=0.12 2. 27% = 27/100= 0.27 3. 0.5% = 0.5/100= 0.005 4. 7.5% = 7.5/100= 0.075 5. 3.4% = 3.4/100= 0.034 6. A family practitioner in your local physician’s clinic saw 150 adults in one week for their annual physical examinations. Sixty-seven received the flu vaccine. Express the rate of the flu vaccine administration in percent. Round to one decimal place. 67/150 x 100 = 44.67%= 44.7% Express the following ratios in their simplest form. 1. A group of 15 men and 20 women have diabetes. Express the ratio of men with diabetes to women with diabetes. Calculate it to its simplest form. 15:20 divide both numbers by common factor 5 = 3:4
2. Your college bookstore reported that of the 1,000 books sold during enrollment, 320 were health information management (HIM) books. Express the ratio of HIM books to the total number of books sold. Calculate to its simplest form. Total # of books sold = 1000 HIM books=320 = 320/1000=32/100= 8/25 3. There are 12 instructors in your HIM program. Five of these are male instructors, the rest are female. Express the ratio of male instructors to women instructors. Calculate it to its simplest form. There is no common factor so ratio is in simplest form 5:7 4. Of the 12 instructors in the previous example, three have a Master’s degree and the rest have a Bachelor’s degree. Express the ratio of Bachelor’s degree prepared instructors to Master’s degree prepared instructors. Calculate to its simplest form. 9:3 divide both # by common factor 3 = 3:1 5. Community Hospital reported sixteen births this past month. Four were male. What is the ratio of male births to female births? Calculate to its simplest form. Divide both # by common factor 4 = 4:12 = 1:3 1. A school district wants to know the proportion of students who have deferrals for mandated vaccines. District School #1 has 237 students. Of the 237 students, 225 students are up to date on their vaccines. There are 12 students with deferrals. What is the proportion of students with deferrals who have not been vaccinated? Round to two decimal places.
12/ (12+225)= 0.05 2. At Community Clinic, 50 patients were seen in one day. Of those, 6 have Type II diabetes mellitus. What is the proportion of people in the group that have Type II diabetes? Express as a decimal and round to two decimal places. 6/(6+44)= 0.12 3. At Community Clinic, Dr. Clark treats only diabetic patients. He has 650 active patients. Of those, 458 have attended his specialized training session for newly diagnosed diabetes. What proportion of Dr. Clark’s patients have undergone his training? Express as a decimal and round to two decimal places. 458/ (458+192) = 0.70 4. At Community Clinic, Dr. Simpson, an interventional cardiologist, saw 270 patients last quarter. Of those, he performed stent procedures on 182 patients. What is the proportion of Dr. Simpson’s patients who have had stent procedures? Express as a decimal and round to two decimal places. 182/ (182 +88)= 0.67 5. Dr. Rutan, an internist in the community clinic above, asked that 14 of the 35 patients he saw last week get their x-rays and lab work completed the day before their appointments. What is the proportion of Dr. Rutan’s patients who had preliminary work completed prior to their appointments? Express as a decimal and round to two decimal places. 14/ (14 +21) = 0.40
