Math 1201 Project #1 Use data from the class survey to answer the following questions. Do all of the calculations and graphs in Rguroo. Copy the graphs and calculation tables into Word and answer the questions in the order presented. You may number the questions to help organize your work. •

Create a bar graph for the variable eye color: What does this graph tell you about my Statistics students? (15) The majority of your Statistics students have brown eyes, followed by blue eyes, hazel eyes and green eyes. A few rare colors were also in there as well, such as amber and grey. •
Select either the variable MLB, NFL or cell phone and construct a pie chart. Make sure you “clean” this data set. You should have between 4 and 10 groups –
any more than that and you may need to consolidate some of the smaller groups. A group of ‘none’
or ‘other’
is certainly acceptable. What does the graph tell you about my Statistics students? (15) The majority of Statistic students have iPhones, followed by Samsung and Google being the least favored. •
Using the variable Age, construct a histogram. How would you describe this distribution? (Center, spread, shape, outliers) (15) The Histogram is skewed to the right, and the center is the Q2 of the histogram and indicates that the median age is about 18. There are a few outliers in Q3 with a couple of people being over 60. The spread is unimodal ( only one peak).
For simplicity of question and in order to test important skills the next few questions will only use those associating as male or female. •
Using the variable height find the summary statistics (n, mean, std dev, median, range, min, max, Q1 and Q3) grouped by gender. Just looking at the values for mean and median for each of the groups, what do they tell you about the shapes of the distributions? (20) Looking at the mean and the median for each group –
for female the mean and median are pretty close which tells me that that data is fairly balanced. For the males the mean is smaller than the median which tells me that the shapes of distribution will be skewed to the left. •
Create a boxplot of height by gender. Compare and contrast the groups. (20) Males are definitely taller than woman in Statistics class with some outliers being close to 7 feet tall for the men and for the woman the outliers were close to 6 feet tall.
