Overview
Why does this assignment matter?
This assignment will give you the opportunity to apply your understanding of the course content to research and present a game/activity that supports children’s skills in the domain of physical, gross motor development. You may be able to use these activities in your field placement. Step One
:
Sign up in groups of 4-5. Choose a game/activity from the choices on the sign-up sheet.
Your game/activity must:
a.
be designed for the specific age group that you signed up for (Infant, Toddler, Preschool, Kindergarten, or School Age)
b.
be referenced from course materials or a published Curriculum Resource (book or internet)
c.
be play-based d.
promote physical, gross motor skills
e.
involve social
interaction between adult and child and/or between children.
Step Two
:
As a group, complete a written analysis of the game/activity and material using
the questions below as a guide. Cite all sources of information that you use. A complete written draft
is due in Week 5, and the Final written assignment due in Week 6 before
the class presentation. Find
or make game materials from items in your home if possible and include photographs. If necessary, you may use photos of game materials from the internet.

the following questions in paragraph form. Type and double-space the paper. Please number the answers to each question. The written part of the assignment should be a MAXIMUM of 3 pages.

Explore, describe, and identify quality sources for Active Games, including the sources offered by the instructor.

Physical Skills Promoted in the Game
Explain how your game promotes physical skills and development. Be specific, referring to both of the following sources:

Adapting the Game
Describe how you would change the game/activity to support the emerging skills of a different age group (i.e., by modifying the materials or method or adding new materials to meet the needs of the age group).

Prepare a 5-minute PowerPoint presentation using the guidelines below.
Presentation Guidelines
In your presentation, include your game type, age group, photos of your materials and the strategies you would use to facilitate your game. If possible, include a video of a group member playing the game with people in their household. In your presentation, discuss:
a) How you would introduce the game to spark children’s interest in the game/activity
o
e.g., model using the skipping rope by jumping to a skipping song
b) The strategies that you would use to promote the use of physical skills
c) How you would modify of the game/activity for one different age group
d) How you would creatively end the game/activity
o
e.g., incorporate tidy-up into a transition to the next activity
