Central Focus (Taken form Common Core Standards) Students will be able to identified shapes (square, triangle and rectangle) Learning Objective/ Teaching Point (Use an observable verb) Students will use blocks to build houses using blocks Students will count the sides the shapes have Academic Language Demand Length – How long something is Height – how tall something is Build – to put things together and create something Shape – the way something is formed, circles, squares, and triangles are shapes Instructional Materials Blocks , shapes and song Opportunities and Methods to Build Social Skills, Rapport & Respect Gather the students in a circle on the floor. Show the shape flash card and ask the student if they know what shapes they are. I will explain to students that shapes are important in math because they help us describe and compare things.
