Show the shape flash card and ask the student if they know what shapes they are. I will explain to students that shapes are important in math because they help us describe and compare things.
Motivation (Include family/culture or community reference and assess prior knowledge) Good Morning Boys and Girls today we will be learning about building and homes in our community. I will then play this song to transition the students and to get them moving Modeling https://youtu.be/-xOpv5PyQsE Instructional Strategies Give each student a set of shape flashcards Play a shape recognition game where each student takes turns holding up a flash card and the rest of the class names the shape. Mini Lesson: Learning Task Introducing key vocabulary. Take a ‘picture walk to look through the pages and talk about what they see and think the story may be about; when appropriate, have children make predictions about what they think may be happening on a page Differentiation: Accommodation for Variety of Learners Give students blocks and have them create building using the blocks Plan for Transitions I will play a song for students so that they can transition to the carpet for the beginning of the lesson, then I will have them go back to their seats and build houses using blocks. I will also let the students know that a triangle has three sides , a rectangle has 4 sides but two are the same length at the top and bottom and the sides of the rectangle are the same length. Finally, I will let students know that a square has the same length on each side. Red Table Blue Table Green Table Yellow Table Guided Practice: Learning Task(Group Lesson- must include a child who is underperforming or has an IEP) Using the story Look At That Building I will ask students to find and identify shapes within the building structures. Differentiation: Accommodations for Variety of Learners N/A Transition Plan To end the lesson I will have a song to wrap up the lesson. Independent Practice I will have students work in their centers and I will ask the students questions based on the shapes. Differentiation: Accommodations for Variety of Learners N/A Summary I will ask the students what they have learned and I will also ask them what they made using the blocks and the shapes they can
