MODULE 6 UNIT 1
Assignment Part A
By: Connie Warburton
Answers must include calculations.
1.
Some hydrogen gas is collected over water at 20.0°C. The partial
pressure of hydrogen is 98.99 kPa. What is the barometric (total) pressure
at the time the gas is collected?
(2 marks)
Pwater = 98.99 kPa – 2.34 kPa = 96.65 kPa
Ptotal = Pwater + PHydrogen
Ptotal = 96.65 kPa + 98.99 kPa
Ptotal = 195.64 kPa
2.
Helium gas is collected over water at 25°C. What is the partial pressure of
the helium, given that the barometric pressure is 99.99 kPa?
(2 marks)
PHelium = 99.99 kPa – 3.17 kPa = 96.82 kPa
3.
690.0 mL of carbon dioxide are collected over water at 26.0 °C and a total
pressure of 96.7 kPa. What is the volume of dry carbon dioxide? (
4
marks
)
Pwater = 3.26 kPa
Ptotal = 96.7 kPa
Vtotal = 690.0 mL
PCO
3
= 96.7 kPa – 3.26 kPa = 93.34 kPa
VCO
2
= 690.0 mL CO
2
x 93.34 kPa ÷ 96.7 kPa
VCO
2
= 666.0248190279
VCO
2
= 666.0 mL
4.
A sample of oxygen collected over water when the atmospheric pressure
was 101.5 kPa and the room temperature, 24 °C occupied 105.8 mL.
What would be the volume of this dry gas
(4 marks)
Pwater = 2.98 kPa
Ptotal (atm) = 101.5 kPa
Vtotal = 105.8 mL
Poxygen = 101.5 kPa – 2.98 kPa = 98.52 kPa
Voxygen = 105.8 mL x 98.52 kPa ÷ 101.5 kPa
Voxygen = 102.6937536946
Voxygen = 102.7 mL
1
Total : 12 marks

Part A
Some tire stores claim that filling your car tires with pure, dry nitrogen is much better than using plain air. They make the following claims.
1. The pressure inside N₂-filled tires does not rise or fall with temperature changes.
2. Nitrogen leaks out of tires much more slowly than air because the N₂ molecules are bigger.
3. Nitrogen is not very reactive, and moisture and O₂ in air cause corrosion that shortens tire life by 25-30%
Evaluate the claim as a whole.
Check all that apply.
Claim passes falsifiability test.
Claim passes logic test.
Claim passes replicability test.
Claim passes sufficiency test
Claim fails all four FLaReS tests.

### To make a conclusion for a report of an experiment on rockets, in which the openrocket software was used for the construction and modeling of two rockets: one one-stage and one two-stage.
First rocket (single-stage) reached a maximum vertical speed of 200 m/s and a maximum height of 1000 m
The second rocket (two-stage) reached a maximum vertical speed of 250 m/s and a maximum height of 1800 m
To make a simplified conclusion, taking into account the efficiency of the software in the study of rockets
