Relevant Medical History
Ms. Marshall states that she had an appendectomy when she was 6 years old. She has not had any other major illnesses or injuries. She is currently not on any medication. She is not on birth control at this time. Her father has Diabetes Mellitus II which is currently under control. Her mother was on medication for a short duration for depression and anxiety in the year 2020. Her brother has Crohn’s Disease which is professionally managed. Psychiatric Treatment History
Ms. Marshall has no previous psychiatric treatment including hospitalizations, medications, psychotherapy, counseling, or case management. She denies substance use. As mentioned previously, her mother was on anti-depressants for a short duration in 2020 due to depression and anxiety. Her maternal uncle has been through substance abuse treatment since he returned from the war in the Middle East. He is currently sober and attending appropriate group counseling. Family History
Ms. Marshall has one brother who is three years younger than her. She describes her relationship with her brother as being close. Even though Ms. Marshall no longer lives at home, she still finds time for her brother. Her parents have been married for 26 years. She states that her
family is supportive of one another. If there is an issue at home, they all get together for a family meeting to discuss the problem as well as find workable solutions. Her mother chose to stay at home with the children and not work during their school years. Her father is a chemical engineer.
She feels close to both of her parents and states they give her unconditional love. Social and Developmental History
Ms. Marshall claims that her birth was unremarkable. She believes that she was raised in a nurturing environment. Her mother loved to stay home while raising her children. She remembers her mother holding her while dancing and her father reading to her when she was younger. Her parents were responsive to her needs. Her mother reported to her that she achieved developmental milestones on time such as crawling, walking, eating solid food, and talking. She attended a Christian preschool as well as kindergarten. She recounts positive, vivid memories from her childhood. She continues to have contact with friends that she has made from this period. She went to public elementary, middle, and high school. She has never had any academic
issues. She states she has always achieved “A” or “B” grades throughout her school years. She graduated from high school with a 3.8 GPA. Extracurricular activities included softball, cheerleading, track, and drama. She discloses that softball was difficult for her since she is not an
athletic person. Some friends were critical of her capabilities which has produced negative memories. She has sometimes felt like she did not “fit in” with her peers. Because of this, she describes herself as being shy or cautious about who becomes her friend. However, she enjoyed her studies and going to school in general. Ms. Marshall had one meaningful relationship which began in her sophomore year in high school. She dated a male classmate until her Senior year. They amicably ended the relationship since her boyfriend was one year older and attending an out-of-state college. She has two best friends from school with whom she socializes. She feels that they have a strong bond and rely on one another through good and tough times. Ms. Marshall discloses that she has never had behavioral issues at home or school. Educational and Occupational History
Ms. Marshall graduated from a local, small school in Kuna, Idaho. She then began online classes at Liberty University to obtain a bachelor’s degree in social work. She is currently taking
online classes to receive a Master of Social Work degree. She is a part-time employee at Primary
Behavioral Health Services as a receptionist. She has been employed there for 4 years. Her employer describes her as a pleasant, industrious individual who is an asset to their office. Also, she is efficient and works well under pressure. Before this, she was employed as a dog walker and a babysitter. This was only a few days a week since she was involved with her studies and extracurricular activities as stated earlier. Cultural Influences
Ms. Marshall does not live in a population that could be described as diverse. However, she has taken multicultural classes at Liberty University. Her employer states that she has attended several conferences about diversity, equity, and inclusion. Also, Ms. Marshall will continue to take classes about cultural awareness as she moves toward a social work master's degree. Ms. Marshall was raised Christian and remains Christian today. She describes her family as traditional. They enjoy holidays such as Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year’s Day, Labor Day, July 4

, and family birthdays. During these celebrations, the family gathers at her parent’s home for meals and outdoor activities. She states her father’s family is German, English, and Scottish. Her mother’s background is Swedish, English, and Cherokee Native American. There may be challenges with Ms. Marshall working in an environment that is foreign to her.
