Outline for Final Project in IT:226
Executive Summary
1.
Explain why DataNanny was created. What occurred for this to be necessary? Why is it needed in today’s world?
The year 2015 was named by the Hipaa Journal as “The Year of the Healthcare Data Breach. During this year there were over 113 million records exposed in various healthcare breaches that were reported by healthcare facilities. Prior to 2015, mostly financial and retail businesses were the targets of cyber criminals. Hackers and Cyber criminals found that there were much more opportunities for them if they were able to steal information from medical records. In those medical records they were able to obtain a vast amount of personal information about their victims. Names, Date of Birth, Social Security Numbers, addresses, and sometimes even information about their families were in the medical records. DataNanny appeals to this audience because of the security that it would provide the patients and the private health information from leaks. The hospital system was involved in a security breach approximately 3 years ago. That breach cost the system thirty million dollars in identity theft monitoring
memberships for its forty-five million patients that were affected by this security breach. Since the time of the breach the system has been in search of a software program that would provide protection for all the devices that the managers use such as laptops, tablets, cellphones. The idea of DataNanny being able to provide the necessary components that this hospital system needs during this current pandemic,
could enable them to correspond with other healthcare managers all over the world safely. This hospital
system works very closely with Washington University School of Medicine to provide residency programs to its recent graduates and undergraduate students. 2.
Explain what DataNanny does. How does it protect personal healthcare information?
DataNanny is a data tracker isolation product. Once installed the software will work to isolate you and your personal/corporate data from being collected and sold online. DataNanny will be app-independent
and multi-device aware. It does require total buy-in. The users, both individual and corporate must install and run DataNanny on all their devices for the product to be fully functional and provide the security that is promised. 3.
Explain who needs DataNanny. What are the benefits for patients, providers, and the healthcare facility?
The targeted audience that we would like to reach are the decision-making staff at the healthcare organizations across America. The age range for these professionals are between 24-60 years of age. These professionals have a bachelor’s degree or are in the process of attaining their degrees. Most are physically present in their departments and have a remarkably close working relationship with key people who will most likely use the software more than the actual person making the decision about the
product. The RVC Healthcare system prides itself on being one that accepts and encourages diversity among its employees. Although this campus, is where most of the leadership has its meetings, is in the middle of the city in St. Louis, Missouri. The staff is an exceptionally good mixture of people from all walks of life from many different countries and cultures. There have been slight increases in the Caucasian population for this part of the city, majority of the city of St. Louis, is African American. The surrounding counties are predominately Caucasian, with African Americans being the minority in all
counties in the state of Missouri except near Kansas City, where again there is a heavy African American population, and Caucasian being the minority in the Metropolitan areas.
4.
Explain functions of DataNanny. How does it work?
DataNanny will function using a central server facility that will coordinate all tracking blockers installed on your devices. All data requests will be routed through DataNanny, it will then function as a proxy server for all your devices. DataNanny will filter all network requests for data and allow only those requests that have been deemed “safe”. 5.
Explain features of DataNanny.
DataNanny will have a logging and notification system so that users can see what requests have been made and which of those have been blocked or allowed. Users will have the ability to challenge a blocked or allowed request. If they feel that something was blocked that should have been allowed, they can request the site be added to allow data transfers. DataNanny will use artificial intelligence to review the challenged requests with a level below 85% being directed to an evaluation team to determine why the user needs the request to be allowed. These requests should take no more than 24 hours to resolve. Once the AI has had a chance to function, research will need to be done to assess the AI inputs appropriate to satisfy a minimum 95% success rate with challenged requests. Explain the areas of Conflict
1.
Acquisition of smaller software company
I was just informed of the acquisition of a small software company located in San Jose, California. We would like to welcome these new team members properly. 2.
New team members received and email that was impersonal.
I agree with the staff in the San Jose office, the emailed message is not the best way to deliver a message so sensitive. 3.
San Jose team was told in the email that they would have to relocate or lose their jobs.
No one is making anyone do anything. We would like to present an opportunity to those staff members that are willing to relocate. Noone has to lose their job and we would welcome those team members to the Raleigh, North Carolina team. 4.
San Jose team has more experience and education than the Raleigh Team.
We would first like to acknowledge that the experience and expertise in the field of Information Technology is represented very well in our new team members. We hope that we can provide you with challenging work opportunities. Sharing your ideas, information, points of view and expertise will help everyone on our team. 5.
Raleigh team is scared that the new team will ultimately take their jobs.
We will try to alleviate the concerns of the Raleigh team by assuring them that their jobs are not at risk. We have no plans to downsize our department and we welcome these new team members to Raleigh, North Carolina
