1 NR509 repeat wk 1 In the 1960s, modern medicine really got going. The creation of Medicare and Medicaid as well as the rise in employee-based health insurance increased access to healthcare. The pace of scientific and medical advancements accelerated significantly. In addition to becoming more specialized, doctors started to concentrate on acute care, which is dominated by chronic diseases like diabetes, cancer, and cardiovascular disease rather than infectious diseases. With more data available, it was possible to assess disparities and rationing in the provision of care, as well as variations in the delivery and quality of care. Between 1960 and 1970, the cost of healthcare per person more than doubled, starting a five-decade rise (Bauchner, 2019) . Costs associated with healthcare will rise as technology develops further. The American family suffers from high health care costs in many ways. The high cost of healthcare causes many people to delay seeking it. They are unaware that doing so will ultimately cost them more. More issues may arise if medical care is prolonged. For instance, if someone has hypertension but refuses treatment to manage it. They might suffer from kidney damage, a heart attack, or a stroke. It has taken a long time to get here. Nothing happened overnight; it took time. Physicians started to specialize and increase their fees as time went on. Additionally, pharmaceutical firms started raising their prices for their goods. Patients must make their own decisions regarding when to seek medical attention and which medications they can forgo. Things will only get worse for people if the cost of healthcare doesn't come down. References Bauchner, H. (2019). Rationing of health care in the united states. JAMA , 321 (8), 751. 2 Letitia, Because of the expense, some people choose not to receive medical care. When an NP interacts with a patient, they can inform them about sliding-fee clinics and other services that are offered in their neighborhood. Some people might not be aware of the resources that are available. They and their family can receive medical and dental care at a lower cost by using a sliding fee clinic. Based on family size and income, a fee is assessed ( Sliding Fee , 2021). Sliding fee . (2021). Community Care of West Virginia - Providing quality health care to the people of West Virginia.
