Report
Follow-up The patient should be re-evaluated 1 month after initiating treatment. If at that time blood pressure (BP) is not under control additional medications and/ or therapy adherence should be assessed, if BP goal is met then the next follow-up should be in 3-6 months (ACC, 2017). Labs that need to be monitored for thiazide diuretics are electrolytes and renal function. This is due to potential hypokalemia, hyponaturemia, and hypochloremia. Kidney function should be monitored periodically because this medication is ineffective when GFR is low. The patient should be informed to seek immediate medical attention if experiencing symptoms of myocardial infraction such as chest/ left arm pain, diaphoresis, nausea/vomiting, arrhythmia, or weakness; experiencing stroke-like symptoms such as confusion, numbness, weakness difficulty speaking or understanding speech; any rapid weight gain, edema, or dyspnea; sudden severe headaches; vision problems; for BP reading equal to or greater than 180/110.
