Review the topic resources related to substance use disorders and process addictions. How do
process addictions differ from substance use disorders? What are three ways in which the
treatment approach will vary from process addiction to substance use disorders? How will age
and/or developmental stage influence the treatment approach?
Substance addiction altered the state of mind of when a person experienced psychological
and physical withdrawal once the substance was no longer being consumed (Stevens, 2022).
Some examples are opiates, MDMA, and heroin. Whereas process addiction does not
require a person to be physically consuming. It is an addiction to something more
intangible. Process addictions can be gambling, pornography, sex, under or overeating, and
shopping addictions to name a few. Treatment approach may vary depending on the
addiction and person. One treatment approach for substance use disorder is MAT which
cannot be used in process addictions. Treatments that can be incorporated with both are
CBT and MI to name a few. Age and development stage of course influence the treatment
approach. It depends on their mental status, physical and psychological. Depending on
those stipulations a person may encounter can impact the process of treatment.
