The program I chose is The Salvation Army of Savannah. According to Tsega et al. (2020), the COVID-19 pandemic has had a significant impact on society's medically and socially vulnerable groups in a number of ways, including restricted access to vital social and medical services, job loss, and food poverty. In order to meet the needs of vulnerable populations, nonprofit community-based organizations, or CBOs, have been collaborating with the health care industry. CBOs play a significant and distinctive role in reducing the negative economic effects of COVID-19. The Salvation Army helps those suffering from job loss and food poverty, so they have been a tremendous help during the COVID-19 pandemic. Poverty is frequently the outcome of and cause of long-term difficulties with food, addiction, housing insecurity, mental illness, unemployment, educational gaps, and various types of violence. These interwoven challenges persist year after year, frequently spanning generations. That is why The Salvation Army seeks to meet the needs of the whole person by providing short- and long-term help, first reducing the symptoms of poverty and then addressing the underlying causes. We help poor families and individuals break the cycle of crisis by augmenting their income with utility support. This assistance frequently makes the difference between being hungry or being evicted. During various seasons of the year, assistance is offered to address a specific seasonal requirement. Seasonal assistance includes a Back-to-School Shopping Spree, a Winter Coat Giveaway, community Thanksgiving and Christmas food boxes, and toys for underprivileged children at Christmas. (The Salvation Army, n.d.) I believe a program like this would be extremely beneficial to my community because it addresses many of the issues experienced in my area. The Salvation Army (n.d.) depends on financial support from the community, which is critical, including gifts from people and corporations, as well as assistance from foundations and grants. The group gratefully appreciates these donations and appropriately distributes them to the people who require them most. Fiscal prudence is unwavering; for every dollar donated, more than 83% is allocated directly to programs and services. Since 1890, The Salvation Army has been available to assist Georgians in times of personal distress and turmoil. Today, The Salvation Army looks ahead, prepared to meet new challenges and opportunities. If history is any guide, The Salvation Army in Georgia has a promising future. Locations, structures, and methods may change, but the challenge of meeting human needs without prejudice in Christ's name remains constant. (The Salvation Army, n.d.) References The Salvation Army.
