CASE STUDY Treatment has been planned for Mandy Moore to receive a three-unit bridge on teeth #11, #12, and #13. Because of prolonged neglect of her dental needs, Mandy must go through a series of dental appointments to correct oral hygiene and restorative problems before bridge preparation can begin. 1. What hygiene problems might interfere with Mandy’s having a bridge placed? Gum disease Tooth decay Poor oral hygiene 2. What type of bridge might be recommended for the charted teeth? For teeth #11, #12, and #13, a traditional fixed bridge is commonly recommended. This involves creating crowns for the abutment teeth (#11 and #13) and a pontic (#12) that replaces the missing tooth. 3. Which teeth are the abutment(s) and which are the pontic(s) for the bridge? In this scenario, teeth #11 and #13 would serve as the abutment teeth, providing support for the bridge. Tooth #12, being replaced by the bridge, would be the pontic. 4. What type(s) of impression(s) would be taken through the series of procedures? Preliminary Impressions to create a study model for planning. Final Impressions to accurately capture the prepared abutment teeth and surrounding oral structures for the fabrication of the bridge. Bite Registration to record the relationship between the upper and lower teeth. 5. Describe the type(s) of provisional coverage that would best suit this patient. Given the need for a three-unit bridge, a custom-made provisional bridge would be ideal. This would protect the prepared abutment teeth, maintain tooth spacing, and provide aesthetics and function while the permanent bridge is being fabricated. 6. Chart the procedure for the type of bridge described in question 2. Assessing oral health and planning treatment Tooth prep; reshape the abutment teeth to receive crowns Impression taking; capture the details of the prepared teeth and oral structures. Bridge placement; fit a temporary bridge to protect the teeth Bridge fabrication; The dental lab creates the permanent bridge based on impressions Permanent bridge fitting; The temp bridge is removed and the permanent bridge is cemented in place. 7. What expanded functions may be possible for you to complete throughout this procedure? Taking preliminary Impressions
