Live Policy Discussion Worksheet Please answer each question below with a complete sentence and be sure to answer all parts of each question. PART 1: Feedback and growth 1. Summarize the peer feedback you received on your advocacy video and your policy discussion practice recording . The peer feedback both said I could make my verbal citation clear. Both peer feedback’s I saw also would’ve asked more clarifying question specific to my new policy if we were doing a zoom live. 2. What is your one main goal to develop your presentation skills? Make sure to include as much specific information as possible, meaning that I include information that is the most relevant to my policy change and make sure to explain it as in depth as possible. 3. What is your one main goal to strengthen your argument or sources? Make clear my use of a verbal citation. 4. What specific steps or actions will you take to grow and reach the goals in #2 and #3? Go back through my previous research or do a little more research so that I can specify my policy is more clear and understandable. PART 2: Policy change, change agents and avatar 1. What is the specific policy change you are arguing for? Please state the current policy (or note that one does not exist) and how you are arguing for change. Different states have distinct rules regarding what athletes can endorse and when they can start engaging in these opportunities. In states with active NIL laws, college athletes can earn money following both state and school rules. In states without such laws, the college sets the guidelines for NIL activities. I am arguing that all NIL policies should be controlled by universities. 2. Who is/are the policy change agent/agents who has/have the power to make this change? NCAA, and possibly congress. 3. How did you locate information about this/these change agent/agents? Different articles and prior knowledge of the sport’s rules
4. List some of the most important or useful information you learned about the change agent(s). NCAA has had decades long conflict with their NIL policy and players benefiting off their own likeness. Since NCAA has loose definition of NIL policy, a lot of policy change is left to the state’s discretion. 5. Write a brief narrative description of your audience avatar for the policy change agent(s). See chapter/video 3.1 to write your audience avatar correctly. Imagine a college athlete who is at the top of their sport at the University of Wisconsin. The athlete feels that they can be compensated for their stellar play in their sport. But they realize that they can’t because the state of Wisconsin doesn’t have NIL laws to regulate or make valid payments from sponsors or big donors. If you’re a college athlete in Alabama, your NIL laws are suspended until policy can get worked out. Now imagine that there are several athletes in several states across the US who go through this exact same thing.
