Discussion Thread: Classmate Connections
Greetings!
My name is Kion Bolden, and I wanted to take a moment to introduce myself as we embark on this DMIN journey together. For ease of communication, my preferred method is via text message or email, and you can reach me at 443-379-2500 or kbolden3@jhu.edu.
The DMIN Cognate in Theology and Apologetics is where I am currently enrolled. I am pursuing this degree for a variety of reasons, including a desire to enhance my understanding of theological principles, biblical studies, and apologetics, allowing me to participate in deeper discussions and analyses. Additionally, it will strengthen my leadership capacity and equip me to
address complex theological issues, which also aids in laying a solid foundation for leading organizations or congregations. Equip me with the ability to engage in philosophical discussion, confront uncertainties, and provide reasoned replies to theological problems. This field of study's
coursework will benefit future generations of students and the academic community. It will also provide me with an in-depth knowledge of the theological and cultural contexts in which I operate, which will strengthen my ability to engage with people from various cultural backgrounds and communicate effectively. This is an extremely personal endeavor that combines
desires for education, career, and spirituality.
As I delved into the DMIN handbook, I found Section II: Doctoral Candidacy Options particularly relevant to my path because, at this early juncture of my doctoral process as it provided detailed and intricate information regarding the two candidacy options available. This section offered a comprehensive comparison of each option, outlining the specifics and implications of choosing either path. The in-depth explanation facilitated a clearer understanding
of the requirements and expectations associated with each option, assisting me in making an informed decision crucial for the next stages of my doctoral journey.
As I navigate my way through the first course, I ask for your prayers for efficient time management so that I can meet all of my obligations. It can be difficult to balance research, schoolwork, and personal responsibilities. Pray for knowledge, comprehension, and the capacity to understand and apply complex theological concepts. Pray for inspiration, originality, and clarity while putting thoughts on paper, because a doctorate requires a lot of writing and considerable research, which can be intimidating. As I work a full-time job and commit to this program full-time, please pray for a healthy balance and understanding from those around me. Offer up prayers for success in the Ph.D. program's coursework, exams, and overall academic achievement. Above all, ask God to provide guidance and wisdom in all areas related to this PhD
path, aligning the pursuit with His purpose and plan.
I believe that our collective support and encouragement will make this academic journey even more enriching.
I look forward to connecting with each of you and sharing this transformative experience together.
~ Kion

Discussion Replies: Classmate Connections - David Orges
Greetings to you David!
It is my pleasure to welcome you to our first course in this doctoral program and congratulate you on being accepted into the program. It is impressive that each degree area you have earned provides you with the necessary knowledge and expertise to be successful in your ministry and leadership. Developing our spiritual growth and development is crucial to our role as support staff serving our senior leadership, so we can be a reliable resource for them and present ourselves as viable successors.
Like my choice for Section II: Doctoral Candidacy Options, I agree with your statement of relevance for Section III: Standards and Best Practices for Research and Writing of the Thesis Project as it continues to provide detailed information about the doctoral program's Thesis Project pathway. This section is essential for students to understand the expectations and requirements related to their research and writing. It also helps to identify potential obstacles and
issues that students may face during their research, so that they can plan appropriately. Additionally, it helps to ensure that students are aware of the most important aspects of the Thesis Project. The information in each of these sections is useful when deciding upon which path is most appropriate for the learner based on their learning style.
If I may offer this prayer for you:
Lord, I come before you with gratitude for the opportunity to embark on the journey of doctoral studies. Today, I lift up my dear fellow student, David who is entering his first course. Bless him with wisdom, discernment, and a deep understanding of the materials he will encounter.
Lord, I am mindful of the responsibilities David bears, being a loving spouse and a parent to four
wonderful children, each with unique extracurricular activities. Grant him the strength to balance
family commitments, coursework, and personal well-being.
Surround this family with your love and grace. May their home be a place of support, understanding, and encouragement during this academic endeavor. Bless the children with understanding hearts as their parent navigates the demands of both family and studies.
