Through this week's reading I have found Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy to be most in line with Scripture's teachings. As stated in previous discussions CBT and REBT focus on maladaptive and dysfunctional thinking and irrational beliefs and how it affects an individual's feelings and behaviors. These negative thoughts and beliefs are what can be termed core lies, which we all store up and root within to create our identity and how we view ourselves. These core lies tend to develop at young ages during traumatic or challenging events. They create shame or guilt based identifiers that must be tweaked and changed for an individual to see themselves in a healthy way. You would utilize scripture to combat the lies and bring forth truth about individual's identity in Christ and help them to see the incorrect ways of thinking. Scripture tells us to take our thoughts captive and make them obedient to Christ (The Holy Bible,
New International Version,
2017). We rely on God to help center our mind, emotions, and feelings on truth, for if not Satan takes the foothold and tells us lies that will lead us towards death.
