There are many possible events and situations that can take place within counseling that rub against ethics, both secular and Christian. It is important to understand that the ethics of the secular field align with those of Christian worldviews. For example, a Christian counselor meeting with a client who is not a Christian, and the counselor wants to share the good news of the gospel to their client so that they may find peace, joy, and freedom from the slow death of this world. It is important as a counselor to always cater to the client's needs and desires. If they do not ask you to share about religion then you must hold back and speak in terms of secular counseling. However, there are still ways to pour in to clients without explicitly sharing the gospel, sharing scripture, and speaking of God. You can still speak and question in a way that show agape, Christlike love, which is how to maintain Christian ethics (Tan, 2022). However, it is important to not push the client in a direction they are unwilling to go for your own benefit. A way to maintain an ethical counseling environment as a Christian counselor desiring to share about God is to make sure that it is public knowledge that you are
a Christian counselor that utilizes scripture and prayer within your counseling sessions and be discussed upon your first interactions with new clients. As always if you are unsure about the ethics of your practice it is best to seek out your supervisor for guidance. If any ethical decisions need to be made it is important to keep documentation of the process you are taking so that in case anything happens you are protected in your actions.
