Hobbes Reflection Paper
What? What might that thinker mean? Are these philosophers crazy or is there something intelligible going on? Hobbes had a very different way of thinking than the other philosophers that we have looked at
during our class. Hobbes believed that two characteristics that were of importance were
observation and deductive reasoning with which Hobbes had set out to study physical nature, the
nature of humanity, and the nature of human society. Hobbes was a philosopher that defended
political absolutism which is essentially the idea that one individual should have total and
complete authority over all others. This seems kind of crazy rather than seeming to have
something intelligible going on. So What? Why does it matter today? Is there something relevant, applicable to my life today? I personally do not believe that Hobbes philosophies are relevant in the modern society that we
have today, and neither is Political Absolutism which he defends. I believe that in some cases
which is rare that Political Absolutism could be around in some countries of the world such as
North Korea. Otherwise any philosophies that Hobbes had set out to study and share are
irrelevant to any individuals living in the 21
st
century.
