Name: Date: Field Experience Summary Sheet 1) What connections were you able to make from our text to your field based experience? Provide at least 3 specific examples. a) The first connection I was able to make from our text to my field-based experience was the relationship between the curriculum and the students. Based on today’s standards and needs, each student has individualized learning experiences. This may include the way they consume information or the type of learning that fits them most appropriately. Based on the school, staff, and students of the area, curriculum may differ. This may expose students to different material and learning styles. Based on our text, the curriculum should be made upon each students interests and goals. In my experience, this was accomplished in the classroom and outside of the classroom. b) The second connection between our text and my field-based experiences relates to philosophy. In our book, philosophy is defined as the study of knowledge, reality, and existence. This may include, but is not limited to, realism, idealism, and critical theory. From these various teaching philosophies, many perspectives are helped being shaped to create a teaching style. From my 15 hours of field experience, I was able to see how my instructor helped imply these philosophies in her classroom. I had the opportunity to experience a learning point of view based on realism and idealism. c) My class connection from our text that connected my field-based experience to our learning standards was based on organization. After contributing to being in a classroom I was able to observe that a lot of time management and instruction needs to be given. Not only that, but in order to be successful with those two tasks, you have to be able to organize your time, classroom, and personal life. From our book, organization is based upon the simple fact of being the most effective and efficient. With this, you can successful in many environments and students. Name: Date: 2) What connections were you able to make from your course work to your field experiences? Provide at least 3 specific examples. a) My first connection that related to my course work and my field experiences was based between families and connections. From a teachers point of view, the classroom is our family. Regardless of the size, students, or subject, being a part of a classroom helps build and create family like connections. Through the use of these connections, students and staff can bond with each other and create pure relationships based on real life tragedy. Our job as a teacher is to protect our students and what we stand for. Not every kid is offered the chance to be with a real family outside of a classroom. As a teacher its our job to step up and do something about it. b) The second connection between my course work and my field experience was based upon the simple fact of making a difference. While contributing my time into a classroom, I was able to examine and process behavior from all different types of students. Certain behavior tolerated and others wasn’t. There was a situation where the teacher has to correct the student for a disturbance in class. After the fact, the teacher was able to pull the student to the side and understand things in a different manner. The advantage of being the teacher comes with the responsibility to correct behavior but also address in private. Through the use of this we are setting the right example. The whole point is to be the best version of yourself for the kids in your classroom. c) My third connection that tied between my course work and my own personal experience was once again based upon on making a difference. As a person who went through the public school system, all I ever wanted was to have a personal connection with a teacher. These were the faces I saw everyday and had to listen to 10 months out the year. In highschool, I was able to have a friendship with my English teacher. Her ability to teach and inspire was remarkable. Her uses of techniques and strategies were able to inspire me to become just like her. Due to her, I am able to complete my 15 hours of field experience in her classroom and finish my first semester in the field of education. Field based experience journal 21_22
