Corey encourages having an open mind about therapeutic approaches and shares the idea that different approaches have their own unique elements contributing to understanding the behaviors of people at the same time each approach has its limitations too. Being new to this field this is insightful knowledge to have and keep
in mind it is beneficial to know the contributions and limitations of what you are working with. I liked how Corey talked about having human qualities like caring and compassion. These are important qualities to have and essential in building relationships. The factors that will influence my approach include skills, knowledge, human qualities, experience and the populations I work with. I also know being aware of my own bias and presumptions about people has the potential to influence
my theoretical approach. Corey, G. (2023). Theory and Practice of Counseling and Psychotherapy (11th ed.). Cengage Learning US. https://capella.vitalsource.com/books/9798214354910
