ATTITUDES REGARDING DEATH AND DYING INFLUENCED BY RACE, ETHNICITY, OR CULTURE. Death is a very human & natural thing. Not one person, or culture can run from it. People with different backgrounds and similar belief systems are brought together through culture. Cultures have differed widely in their perspectives on death and what may or may not happen beyond, with each group expressing its own views. Here are some examples as to how culture plays into effect of how death is viewed: - When a child dies in Columbia, it's believed that they transform into angels and ascend to heaven. Because loving ones find solace in the knowledge that their kid is in paradise, the period of grief is frequently brief. - In Peru, there is often a viewing, a graveside service, or cremation service. In some instances, guests will chew cocoa leaves which is thought to allow them to be with their deceased loved one. Some believe that their loved one is in a deep sleep after they pass away, while others believe they are in another world.
VARIATIONS BETWEEN CULTURES AND PRACTICES AROUND DEATH The differences between death and how one prepares a funeral and whether they have them have all to do with culture. Here are 3 examples of how practices around death vary between cultures: In Italy, funerals are a social occasion that get enthusiastic support from family members and neighbors. Funerals often have religious aspects because many Italians are Catholic. Instead of being buried, caskets are generally placed in mausoleums. Buddhist and Shinto traditions are frequently combined in Japanese funeral rites. Washing the corpse of the deceased person, preparing their favorite meals as offerings, cleaning the burial site, hosting a wake, and cleaning the burial or cremation site are common customs. To demonstrate the link between emotional and physical suffering, the Dani people of West Papua, New Guinea, used to amputate a finger when a loved one went away.
