Finding Your Purpose Name: Carson Poarch Course: CWV-101-O512 Date: 07/25/23 Instructor: Robert Vaughan Be sure you respond to all five prompts and include all the sources you cite on a reference section at the end of this document. Consider how what you have learned throughout the course will impact your future. Explain how to find your purpose by answering the following questions. Include citations and references from the topic Resources. 1. Summarize the concept of missio Dei (missional purpose). Your answer in 100-150 words: The textbooks help us to understand the concept of Missio Dei to be the sending of God or the mission of God. When we live faithfully and commit to keeping God's commandments, we can fulfill the purpose that God has planned for our lives. We can fulfill our spiritual purpose by filling the world with followers of God that love him and His children (Charpentier & Waddell, 2020). As a Christian, I understand that God's mission is to have all of His children living with Him once again. We can do this through Jesus and his sacrifice that He made for us. “Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me” (John 14:6). No one will make it back to the Father without Jesus Christ. 1. Summarize Buechner's concept of finding your purpose and explain how this aligns with the way you live out your worldview (missional purpose). Your answer in 100-150 words: Buechner explains the concept of finding your purpose by helping us to see that there needs to be a balance in life. This balance is between finding work that helps us feel like we have a purpose and contributes to our livelihood, while also finding something that brings us joy. Basically if we find our lives and jobs to be meaningless, we have not found a true purpose. It also can be flipped. If we find a job that is meaningful but is not enjoyable, we have not found a true purpose the same. God wants our lives to be filled with purpose and satisfactions while also being joyful. We are not here to live in misery. This aligns with my worldview and is why I picked the job I did. I am able to have fun, while also changing lives! 1. Reflect on your beliefs about origins (creational purpose) and describe how those beliefs contribute to your understanding of human purpose.
Your answer in 100-150 words: God created humans to live in this world that is His. We are here to be tested and tried to see if we will be able to overcome the trials of this life. I believe that it is our responsibility to protect the world and God's children as He would personally. We must show God how much we appreciate Him and the life, and free will, that He has blessed us with. We can show this gratitude by accepting God into our lives and letting Him guide us. He taught us to love all people and to live life according to the guides that He has created for us, including the scriptures. I think this helps us to see that this is our purpose because it is His. We should always have our purpose in line with our Heavenly Fathers plan. 1. Describe how Jesus's statement of overarching purpose in the commandment to love God and love others as ourselves can be lived in and out of the workplace. Your answer in 100-150 words: I think that as an elementary teacher I will run into a lot of frustration. Between parents, students and other teachers, I will have to be an example of patience and love. The first two great commandments are to love God and to love our neighbors as ourselves. Jesus loved all people no matter what they had done in their lives or how they treated Him. We should strive to be like this in the workplace. Everyday we will be around people that are hard to work with but will have to work together to meet a common goal! I believe that if we always put love first and try to understand where others come from, we can find peace. I also plan to teach the children how to love children that are different from them. I want to make my classroom a safe place full of love. 1. Describe how your future career can be an opportunity to help others flourish, to be purposeful, and to do no harm. Your answer in 100-150 words: I plan to become an elementary school teacher. As a teacher I will be with students every single day and will be one of their biggest examples. It is my job to shape minds and to help children understand their purpose in life. I will teach them how to love and respect each other and that they can find their purpose in something that makes them happy. My classroom will be a safe place where every child is loved, especially if they aren't loved at home. There will be no judgment and no rejection. All students will be loved for their flaws and their differences. I will love and teach my students to love like Jesus! This will help my students to understand how people are supposed to be treated!
