The term, the color line, was used as a reference for racial segregation after slavery was abolished in the United States. This is a symbolic and figurative line which exists separating the white race from the colored race. In a society where the color line exists, the white and black races do no coexist or live as one. There is a vast majority of people who have entirely different experiences in the United States as the color line exists. It is substantially more difficult for a black man to be at the same level or achieve greater success than a white man when this line exists. I believe the color line still exists today. Although it might not be as harsh and prevalent as it was decades ago, but existing at all is far too much. You can examine it all within the world today. Anytime you turn the news on it is a story about a black male being singled out and shot, or how Hispanics, immigrants, and blacks are having to work together to acquire limited resources. This is an ongoing and persisting problem in America. The first step to heading in a direction to a world where everyone matters equally, is to validate experiences and feelings of those of color. All it takes is for someone to take a step back and put yourself in someone’s shoes. Be an advocate for someone and let them know you hear them, and you are trying to understand them. Another important step in the right direction is to acknowledge and understand your privilege. Not everyone may be as fortunate as you, acknowledge the things you have and use it as resources to be a helping hand to those who do not. Whether it may be the ability to help with food supply, or even standing up for someone who you see fall into the color line.
