Said Mechaal PHIL230 Professor Kate Padgett Walsh 29 August 2023 Discussion#1 ● When should we report crimes to the police ? Should we report a family member who committed a crime (Father) ? Definitely I would NOT turn in my father for committing any crime. To understand my decision I need to explain my background. I am an international student from Spain. However, my parents are from Morocco. In our culture family is very important. We help each other to achieve everything. In fact, my dad sacrificed his life to cross the sea and achieve a better life for me and my siblings. On the other hand, in this situation I would like to understand the context, the relationship, if it's the first time, his perspective… After that I would have some empathy and imagine the victim’s perspective . However, I would not say that my father is right or wrong about this decision but he would definitely have some reasons to make this act. Discussion #3 ● What are the qualities that make a person wise ? As we mentioned, one of the things that make people wise is to know that there are many things to learn, you need to know that it's impossible to be knowledgeable in everything. This can be the beginning of being able to improve your knowledge. Things such as educating yourself, getting more experiences, learning about disciple,knowledgeable but open-minded/skeptical, underestimating their knowledge, desire to enlighten others.
In my opinion, if you think that you know everything, you are not wise. To be wise takes time and all the factors that I mentioned before.
