For Tuesday's Exit Ticket - A. Respond to these questions: 1. For teachers, a code of ethics serves as a valuable tool to guide their conduct and decision-making. Demonstrate professionalism in your interactions with students, colleagues, parents, and administrators. Respect the privacy of students and colleagues by maintaining confidentiality. Treat all students fairly and without discrimination. Stay informed about educational advancements, teaching methodologies, and best practices. Use position to advocate for the best interests of students. B. Submit your group work template: Scenario: “Don’t let my son dress up as a girl!” Part 1—Determine the nature of the problem 1. Is it an ethical issue? Yes, this is an ethical issue
2. If it is an ethical issue, does it involve ethical responsibilities, or is it an ethical dilemma? (If it is an ethical responsibility, what does the Code mandate that teacher do?) If it is an ethical dilemma, the teacher can seek a resolution using the steps that follow. (Part 2) The ethical issue is an ethical dilemma. Part 2—If it is a dilemma, analyze it using this process 1. Identify the teacher's conflicting responsibilities. She wants to respect the parents’ opinion, but she also notices that the child thrives in this environment/activity. 2. Brainstorm possible resolutions. 1) Sit down with the parents and see why they feel this way 2) Ask the child why he enjoys playing dress up 3) Show examples of why the teacher thinks the child is thriving in this environment vs. if he wasn’t able to be in this environment. 3. Consider ethical finesse (finding a way to meet everyone’s needs without having to make a difficult decision). The teacher can show different options for the student where he can still act as a different character, but not in a feminine role.
