Chapter 1: Overview
1.
How do you feel about education in America (after watching this chapter)?
Education and curriculum is a subject that needs to be spoken about more
Chapter 2: Little Rock Then & Now
1.
Did you know about the Little Rock school crisis?
No, I did not know about this crisis.
2.
What are your reactions to hearing from the surviving Little Rock Nine?
I am shocked to hear that the rate of segregated schools has increased since 1988. I feel sad that
not everyone is given the same right to a great education in America. It makes me feel disgusted
that people would treat children differently based on their skin color.
3.
Have you ever experienced a scenario where people overtly practiced intolerance
or bigotry?
Growing up in this generation I have always heard of intolerance and bigotry in America. I have
never experienced it towards me personally but I have heard my nieces and cousins that are in
high school now face racist jokes and remarks made towards them. When they fight back, their
teachers punish them and pretend they never saw it happen to them first.
Chapter 3:
New York City
1.
What is the motivating factor for such high rates of school segregation in NYC?
The motivating factor of segregation in NYC is some schools do not get as much money as
others. The schools are hard to get into because high
income and certain races get first call. The
system there is unfair.
2.
What were the school resources where you went to elementary/high school?
I attended school in Rocklin, CA. I know I went to a school with a lot of privilege and a high
budget. Our football field was donated by Nike. We had a high budget, which I do not know
where it comes from. We had great extracurriculars and great relationships with college scouts
3.
Was it the same as other schools in your district?
All schools in the RUSD have high ratings and privilege.
Chapter 4:
Los Angeles
1.
What is triple segregation, and whom does it affect?
Triple segregation is where whites come before Latinos. It affects Latinos.
2.
Does this issue affect the community in which you went to school? If so, how?
I feel this does not affect the community that I went to school in.
3.
How familiar were you with the Mendez vs. Westminster Case?
I have never heard of this case.
4.
What are your feelings about this case?
I feel that it was not fair that the Latino students did not get fair treatment. I am very happy that
they won the case and helped all students in California get an equal chance to succeed.
