1.
What were the objectives for the unit on gender that Ms. Espinosa was teaching.
The objectives of the unit on gender that Ms.Espinosa was teaching are as follows:
-
Identifying male and female activities
-
Identifying crossover activities
-
Identifying gender stereotypes
-
Identifying gender rules & who follows them
-
Identifying how gender is learned
-
How gender affects the student personal life
2.
What are additional or other activities that you would have included in this unit to help students
think more critically about gender?
During the first activity that Ms. Espinosa presented where students voted on if they believe
it is a girl or boy thing, I would’ve turned this into a class discussion. After the students voted on
the different activities, I would’ve begun to ask questions that would promote critically thinking.
For example, where do these ideas come from?
3.

It is important to address gender in P-12 classrooms because it can help children understand
themselves and others. Students will learn to respect one another, and it can help create a
school community where everyone feels accepted.
