The person I believe to be an authentic leader is General Colin Powel. I believe him to be an
authentic leader because he was always concerned about the aftereffects that war would cause on
Soldiers. He displayed the characteristics and behaviors that demonstrated authenticities such as
morality, balanced decision-making, selflessness, loyalty, and duty. He constantly stressed the
importance of the morality of war regarding the way the American military conducted themselves
with enemy combatants. He was loyal to his beloved military and stressed the importance of
caring for Soldiers when they returned from war because he had previously seen how they were
treated after the Vietnam war. He was always willing to serve his country and put politics aside,
and led them from the front with his follower's best interest at hand.
According to George's model, softening the boundaries between leaders and followers allows for
a more critical trust between both parties. There is an increase in trust because both sides are now
almost on familiar ground; this allows the follower to build more loyalty and perform better for
their leader because of the level of trust built by softening the boundaries. The follower has more
invested in the relationship. Thus, this increases his loyalty toward the leader. The drawback of
this is it could lead to a blurred level where order and discipline cannot be maintained because of
the closeness of both parties, the leader and followers. This lack of discipline could lead to
challenges to the leader's decision or even negligence of his decisions. By blurring these lines,
you risk losing order, which can result in nothing getting accomplished.

I consider a servant leader is any of the Saints of the Catholic Church. They have spent their lives
working in service in helping their fellow humanity. Many of the Saints have spent their lives
working with the poor, helping to bring education to underprivileged areas, and helping those
who had no hope previously. The Saints displayed the characteristics of emotional intelligence,
including communication both emotionally and physically, empathy towards those in need,
vision, stewardship, The followers of a servant leader are receptive because they understand the
emotional investment and desire the leader has for them to succeed in life. The followers
understand that the leader has the best intentions in mind. The followers are receptive to this
leadership style and are fiercely loyal to the leader because of the devotion the leader gives them.
To me, a servant leader's gender, age, or ethnicity does not influence how their followers perceive
them. The influential factors, in my opinion, are the attributes and behaviors that they possess. A
bad leader is lousy, regardless of age, gender, or ethnicity. None of those factors make a good
leader, but rather the way the leader carries himself and cares for his followers are the factors that
influence the follower's perception. A servant leader's success can be influenced by the situation
they are serving in and the followers' receptiveness toward them. But this receptiveness is based
on the servant leader's ability to communicate their intentions of developing and helping the
followers.

The video that had the most impact is the eulogy of former president George H.W. Bush by his
son George W. Bush. This was the most impactful to me because as you listened to the eulogy,
you could see the love, admiration, and respect the son had for his father. The many stories told
by the son about his father show the many qualities and values that he has learned by watching
the way his father conducted himself, such as putting “character over pedigree.” The dynamic of
the relationship between father and son is most important to me from this video because it shows
how a person acts influences many people. Someone is always watching and taking influence
from those actions. In the case of the Bush family, you can see the many values that the father had
passed on to his children from the way he treated people, viewed public office and life in general
of lived it to the fullest.
What I will remember most from the eulogy is the kindness toward others that George W.H. Bush
displayed. He would take time from his busy day and spend them writing words of
encouragement, sympathy, and thanks to those he knew or even was just acquaintance with. This
stands out because it shows the level of importance, he put on being compassionate and
sympathetic towards people, which to me is a critical value/behavior to have as a leader.
