Introduction
A.
Ethics, also called moral philosophy, the discipline concerned with what is
morally good and bad and morally right and wrong. It is a set of moral
principles. While law requires citizens to avoid certain behaviors under
penalty of physical or economic harm, ethics utilizes pressure of a different
sort. Ethics appeals to the ideal or purpose a rule serves. It appeals to
conscience or regret, to guilt or remorse.
B.
Corporate social reponsibility (CSR) is a self-regulating business model that
helps a company be socially accountable to itself, its stakeholders, and the
public. By practicing corporate social responsibility, also called corporate
citizenship, companies can be conscious of the kind of impact they are having
on all aspects of society, inclluding economic, social, and environmental
(Fernando, 2022).
2.
Analysis
A.
In this case, Steve, the company’s Information Technology lead, discovered
that the company database of customer information was hacked. Steve was
able to correct the code that had allowed the hack and is confident that the
database was now safe. However, Steve failed to inform Clare Applewood,
owner of the company, and Carlos Rodriguez, Operaions Manager. By failing
to inform the owner and the Operations Manager, they they also failed to
inform customers. This scenerio may be subject to a legal action by the
customers and the local government.
B.
The company should have informed the customers about the issue and what
was done to reslove it. The company shuld have contacted and requested
assistance from the Local and/or state government. A formal apology to the
customers and a reassurance that measures are being taken to prevent a breach
from reoccuring should take place.
3.
Recommendation
A.
I recommend that Mountain Top View conduct a reevaluation of their current
policy and update it. Training for Information Technology team should take
place to prevent incidents similar to this. Review and update all procedures
and protocols. Notifications process and steps that need to be taken should be
reviewed and enhanced.
4.
Conclusion
:
Technology has advanced over time and ethical and legal issues will continue to arise.
Business’s need to sheild themselves and their customers. Policies, procedures, and
protocols should be reviewed and upated, if needed, in a timely manner.
