Anonymity and its Impact on Online Behavior
Anonymity, a key affordance of the early Internet, has enabled individuals to express
themselves freely and engage in a wide range of activities without fear of reprisal. However,
anonymity has also been linked to a rise in trolling, harassment, and the spread of
misinformation. In this paper, I will explore the impact of anonymity on online behavior and
develop a policy framework to address the issues it raises.
Anonymity can have both positive and negative effects on online behavior. On the one
hand, it can empower individuals to express themselves without fear of censorship or social
stigma. This can be particularly beneficial for marginalized groups who may be targets of
