Short Reflection Paper for Theology II Etienne Pieterse School of Behavioral Sciences & School of Divinity, Liberty University THEO202-C03: Theology Survey II Prof. Lonnie Bell 10 November 2023
Delving into the theological topics and ideas covered in this course has made me realize the enormous impact these ideas can have and have had on both my academic pursuits and my personal path in life. This course has set the foundations for the understanding that theological notions form the foundation of one's worldview, defining the lens through which we observe the complexities and various occurrences of life. Theology's intricacy stems from its presuppositional nature, which influences the basic framework of how we approach any given issue. This intrinsic feature of the study of theology, which makes it a difficult field, stems from the divide between core ideas and simpler opinions about specific topics and themes. However, in untangling these complications opens the way to implementing many theological concepts into my everyday life. Considering the belief in the intrinsic depravity of human sinfulness; it is not just an intellectual idea; it is a fundamental principle that shapes my perspective on how I should conduct myself in a kingdom view perspective of extending God’s mercy, grace, and message to those around me. Regardless of how virtuous a person may appear on the surface, realizing the human proclivity for sin necessitates a constant awareness of the need for mercy and grace. This belief infiltrates not only my personal life, but also my academic pursuits. Applying theological principles becomes a compass in my fields of study of psychology and biblical studies, guiding me through ethical dilemmas and moral problems. If humans are intrinsically flawed, it emphasizes the significance of robust accountability for myself and others, which acknowledge that individuals, despite their apparent kindness, may nevertheless struggle with their innate sins and flaws. When studied and understood properly, theology is not limited to the pages of a textbook, the Bible, or the walls of a classroom. A dynamic study of the Bible and God drives me to bridge the gap between theoretical understanding and real-world applications
