Eternal Family REL 200C Unit 6: Video Deep Dive Before Watching the Videos Step 1: Read the following paragraph from The Family Proclamation, and provide the information requested. “We warn that individuals who violate covenants of chastity, who abuse spouse or offspring, or who fail to fulfill family responsibilities will one day stand accountable before God. Further, we warn that the disintegration of the family will bring upon individuals, communities, and nations the calamities foretold by ancient and modern prophets. “We call upon responsible citizens and officers of government everywhere to promote those measures designed to maintain and strengthen the family as the fundamental unit of society.” If these two paragraphs are “the answers,” what are “the questions” the Lord’s apostles are answering? (Provide at least 2-3) 1. What are the consequences of violating principles that God commands within the family? 2. What impact does the disintegration of the family have on individuals, communities, and nations? 3. What actions should responsible citizens and government officials take to preserve and strengthen families. Step 2: Answer the following questions. 1. Find the three things that secular education rarely teaches students but are absolute truths according to President Russell M. Nelson in his “Choices for Eternity” (May 15, 2022) Devotional to Young Adults (list all three). 1. The existence of a living God. 2. The reality of the Lord Jess Christ. 3. The divine mission of his restored church. 2. Define the word “disintegration” and contrast that with the definition of the word “atonement.” Reflect on the divine family outcomes that Jesus’ atoning sacrifice is designed to accomplish (1-2 sentences). To disintegrate, something must be breaking down or falling apart, resulting in a loss. The atonement, refers to reconciliation for wronging.
Eternal Family REL 200C 3. In what ways does the adversary work to make religious ideas small in the public sphere? How do you resist the temptation to be sidelined, while also being courteous and respectful? Public perception can be very hard from the public eye. Sometimes it might seem like our ideals are meaningless. It is important to hold strong, but to not be contentious to those that disagree or have differing points of view. While Watching the Videos Step 3: Watch the three video segments linked on Canvas (I-Learn). While watching the videos, provide answers to the following questions. Questions: 1. What specific statement/quote/teaching impressed you the most and why? This could also be a question you are willing to take to the Lord for further insight, comfort, and godly perspective. [1+ paragraph(s), include the exact quote with reference citation; e.g. “Elder Oaks, Gen. Conf. Oct 2013”] Elder Oaks, Ensign, January 2001, “Tolerance obviously requires a non-contentious manner of relating toward one another’s difference.” As members we should be tolerant of other people, which requires perspective, and showing respect. It doesn’t require you to lower your standards however. 2. How will you implement what you have learned from the video deep dive? I will address contention differently. It is so important to remain respectful to others that might disagree with us. Christ would not want us to argue with others or put other people down. It is also important to stand strong and tall with are beliefs. Just because other people do something, doesn’t mean we need to follow the social norm.
