Attitudes, Values, and Ethics- A Brief Paper Part I
I've chosen to delve into the subject of abortion as it touches upon a variety of emotions, viewpoints, and moral complexities. This topic caught my attention because I've observed how abortion intersects, with facets of society such, as healthcare, legal frameworks, ethics, religion, and individual convictions. It's worth noting that this subject often evokes emotions and reactions from individuals and communities due to their religious and personal convictions. My interest in abortion stems from my curiosity about the perspectives surrounding it. I understand that it is an often-controversial topic. From what I've observed in others’ opinions on abortion there exists a spectrum of views ranging from unwavering support for women’s rights and autonomy to deeply held beliefs about the importance of life starting at conception. This array of opinions underscores the complexity of the issue. Highlights the challenge society faces when addressing abortion rights and restrictions in a community.
As I aim to broaden my understanding of abortion, I am particularly interested in exploring its dilemmas. One such dilemma involves finding a balance, between respecting the rights and autonomy of individuals while also considering the life of the fetus. Furthermore, I am intrigued by how restrictions, on abortion access impact both public health outcomes and individual well-
being. There are aspects within the abortion debate that I would like to delve into further. These include understanding the socio-economic implications of abortion for individuals the role of healthcare providers in offering abortion services among varying landscapes and how cultural and societal norms shape attitudes towards abortion. Some questions that arise are How does access to abortion and related laws affect women’s health and socio status? What are the term
psychological effects of undergoing an abortion? How do healthcare professionals balance their beliefs with their duties when it comes to offering abortion services?
I am mainly worried, about how limitations on abortion availability could affect marginalized and poor communities leading to disparities, in healthcare. Additionally, the stigmatization associated with abortion can further compound these challenges making it challenging for individuals to seek care. One ethical issue related to abortion involves the dilemma faced by healthcare providers who may have religious objections towards it. This issue forces them to make a choice, between adhering to their beliefs and fulfilling their professional obligation of providing nondiscriminatory care. This ethical dilemma highlights the importance of having policies that uphold the rights of healthcare providers to follow their conscience while also ensuring that patients can access legally allowed services, without obstacles.
