s race a physical fact or is it an ideology? Should there be affirmative action based on race?
When Africans were incorpated into a new society, which they lack the rights on equality that were given to white people. Rasicism explains why some people were denied liberty which the declaration of Indpendence guargeetes to all of new found nations people Based on the lecture I believe race is an ideology based on Europeans' belief in the 1600s of African Americans were less superior than the white race due to inequality. African Americans were chained to the philosophy of the settler’s attitudes and further exploited by scientific theories that were unsophisticated. These ideologies have deep roots based on the physical attributes of an individual, no one should be judge based on the outside appearance. The settler’s considered slavery was based on enslavement, due to other races that were not European, and this theory was founded by the initial colonists. Further, the colonist used race for political gain and authority. The Europeans classified African Americans as a race due to their literacy works produced in the 1600s. Moreover, the idea of race was to create an interconnection between new settlers and pioneers from the European lands to the new world. Moreover, with regards to affirmative action, there should be an eradication of the viewpoint of thinking race correlates with being less superior and more superior.
Race is an ideology based upon the formation of the United States and its process of becoming a nation without slavery. It was created for those who held slaves to feel less guilt about being slaveholders. The reasoning is more or less along the lines of, if you believe that somebody is inferior to you, then you can use them as a slave, because it's okay. "They're less human, anyways". That is how this ideology of meaningless sorting, albeit false, came into fruition, and it eventually spiraled into a full blown dogma about who belongs to what race and which races
are better than others. I don't think that there should be any affirmative action based on race because... firstly, it doesn't actually exist. There are many different ways to group people (Cultural upbringing, skin color, ethnic group, location of upbringing). And second of all, even if the idea of race did exist, there's nothing that needs to be done about it. There is no proof or evidence that certain races are better than others.
RE
: Great points! I agree the ideology of a superior race was based on control and power over individuals. Further, this theory became into practice due to the colonist egos of separating
people who did not come initially from Europe. There are many ways to distinguish individuals that would not propagandize slavery and there is no data supporting this philosophy. We are all humans that have feelings and should be treated equally.
