1 Pantheism's Popularity TD Session 5 Two reasons why you think that people find New Spirituality appealing. People find spirituality so appealing because it says that knowledge is in us, that God's likeness exists inside us. As Meyers and Noebel write,” For New Spiritualists, all knowledge exists in the God-likeness within us. If we connect with a higher consciousness, we transcend the limitations imposed on us by our physical existence” (Meyers & Noebel 2015 pg144). But as Christians, we know that we were made in God's image. As we read in Genesis 1:27 “So God created man in his own image. In the image of God, he created him; male and female he created them” (The Holy Bible English Standard Version 2016). The other reason New Spirituality is appealing to people is that it gets rid of sin, making it easier for people to live their lives how they choose. They believe that all we need to do is understand consciousness. As Meyers and Noebel write,” The real “sin” in New Spirituality, if there is such a thing, is failing to understand the true nature of consciousness” (Meyers & Noebel 2015 pg144). At least one reason why New Spirituality cannot coexist with Christian teaching. In other words, on what issue do they contradict each other so that one worldview must be right, and the other worldview must be wrong? New Spirituality believes we manifest our wants and desires and believe if someone is suffering it is because they manifested it into existence. As Meyers and Noebel write, “According to New Spirituality, then, if something is wrong, it is because you will it so; if you’re sick, it is because you want to be sick; if you’re poor, it’s because you want to be poor; if you get in an accident, it is because you wanted to be hurt”(Meyers & Noebel 2015 pg145). Christians know God will meet our needs, and that we have an enemy that comes to destroy us. John 10:10
