Article Analysis In the article, Principles and Purposes of Assessment in the Classroom, the author discusses how educators are using assessment information to make decisions in the classroom at a constant rate (Earle, 2021). Educators probably do not see it, but these constant decisions while using assessment information allows them to collect data about their students’ learning progress and make the necessary changes. Sarah Earle (2021) points out three different ways of how influential assessments are. Assessments can influence the culture in the classroom and school, make an impact on student and teacher ideas, and also determine what standards are taught and how educators will teach them (Earle, 2021). Sarah Earle (2021) also points out the effective use of assessments can help educators identify if their students are succeeding or if the students require more support from the teachers. The author focuses on the use of assessment by taking a look at both formative and summative assessments’ purpose, and discussing the principles of validity and reliability to provide guidance during the decision-making process. In agreeance with the author, it is important that educators understand the purpose and principle of assessments. Educators are constantly making decisions on how to relay information to the students, what tasks would be beneficial, and how to deal with if they made the right decisions or not. With the understanding of the purposes and principles of assessment, educators can use this information to create significant and effective assessments in their classrooms.
