1.
What problem arises in the article and why do you think it rises ethical concerns?
The admission and treatment for animals in need of rescuing and live in a shelter often presented themselves resulting in a difficult position. For instance, one common issue that appear a challenge today is finding the space to intake an animal as well as the resources. However, by intaking the animal this leads to limitations and the decision to put or not to put the animal down (euthanize).
2.
Explain how a utilitarian would oversee this situation.
From a utilitarian viewpoint they see and identify animals having no moral standing, and that animals are like humans. I say this because as humans we have our ways of communicating opposed to animals, they use body language to communicate and that us humans need to respect, show compassion, and treat them with kindness as we would like
to be treated.
3.
Describe how this issue might be viewed by someone who follows towards the Kantian moral theory.
This issue might be viewed in a negative way because what Kant's believers’ belief in is that since animals are not self-conscious meaning they are incapable of feeling what they feel . This often resulting as an indirect job or duty through obligations to animals.
4.
Summarize which approach you believe would be most logical and why.
3
In summary in this scenario, I believe the best and most logical way of approaching this would be
from a utilitarian. I am a utilitarian and so the best way I would approach this scenario is that we should be looking for more information based of the negative effects on leaving an animal at the shelter or putting down an animal for no health issue etc. In addition, this subject has been debated and have been questions that still are remaining meaning that people aren’t validating what data is showing or people aren’t accepting that this is a serious issue and that its being dismissed. Therefore, this is causing many doubts and is leading to more harm than good.
