1 Divergent Thinking Ruben Collazo ENTR 300 9 OCT 2022 Dr. Tony Muscia
DIVERGENT THINKING 2 Divergent Thinking Divergent thinking is a necessary trait in the world of an entrepreneur or even a high-level manager. Ken Robinson (2016) clarifies the definition of divergent thinking; he states that divergent thinking is an essential capacity for creativity. It is the ability to think outside the box, to receive a problem, and think of many potential solutions that may not be thought of by others. Divergent thinking is what separates great leaders and problem solvers from everyone else. Catalytic Leadership Catalytic leadership is a leader who possesses the following traits, Character competence, contributing team member, competent manager, and effective leader (Brueggemann &Mathews, 2015). These are all necessary traits that go hand and hand with divergent thinking, these traits are the differentiations needed to become a successful and effective leader. After reviewing Think, Learn, and Create (TLC) is a combination of providing resources such as capital, time, and actions to promote creative change within an organization. This is done when catalytic leaders use all their potential resources and outlets to achieve a major goal. Barberbooks is still in the early stages of development and have not gotten to the use of TLC and displaying catalytic resources, but the accumulation of knowledge and potential outlets of support and partnership has been a work in progress for some time and will continue to be a priority as the company gets up and running. The U.S. Armed forces do a great job at providing resources for its members to prepare for separation and the world outside the military, but they also fail to get this information out for all its member to take advantage of; you must search and want to acquire the information to successfully find these resources. I have done the research and searched for a mentor through these military programs. While attending Airmen Leadership School (ALS) which is a required leadership course for newly promoted sergeants, I found
DIVERGENT THINKING 3 mentors and was introduced to an Airforce Veteran who separated and was a successful business owner. He mentioned how the Air Force presented him with financial advisors and has a large group of veterans who are small and large business owners. The Airmen Family Readiness Center (AFRC) provides a wide variety of information and services to members and their families. During my time at ALS, I was introduced to the many services that the AFRC provides, and I have reached out to business owners as an outlet to acquire information on my desire to open a barbershop, I have not yet reached out to obtain information on a mobile app or web design for my booking service, but I will certainly reach out. The military also provides Professional development courses that emphasize the progression of leadership and management, this certainly carries over into the field of catalytic leadership. I have taken a few courses which are time management and controlling an audience, there are a couple more I would like to attend such as conflict management, shifting your culture, and emotional intelligence & leadership. Finally, SBA.gov has a list of programs designed to benefit and assist military veterans with the creation of new businesses such as mentoring, small business development centers, and outreach centers for veteran businesses. As far as support for my business venture Barberbooks, I have yet to discover and support avenues for my business idea. I have a few ideas to present my pitch to potential partners that are established within the barber industry. The goal was to create an LLC and use my EIN number to create a business account and acquire business credit that I can use for funding to get my business up and running. If that idea fails, I will have to go the bootstrapping route which I believe is doable. Three factors for divergent thinking in my scenario would be utilizing my resources, retrieving business credit for funding, and finally hiring high-quality employees that can receive and be taught quality information to become a great leader. These steps are necessary and can make or break my business venture. Using my resources can speed up the startup
