Essay 1: The evidence and affirmations of the deity of Christ in Hebrews. The entire book of
Hebrews emphatically declares the deity of Jesus Christ. Jesus is the son of God. We have not a
shadow, but the exact person of the Father in Hebrews 1:2NRSV “but in these last days he has
spoken to us by a Son,

whom he appointed heir of all things, through whom he also created the
worlds”. All the readers of Hebrews knew that God created the heavens and earth, so when Jesus
is mentioned here, He is mentioned as creator. Jesus remained as God during His time on earth.

emptied Himself, taking the form of a bond-

being made in the likeness of men.”
With this in mind, Believers Bible commentary says “when we read that Christ Jesus was
in the form of God, we learn that he existed from all eternity as God. It does not mean that he
merely resembles God, but he actually is God in the truest sense of the word. Yet he did not
consider it robbery to be equal with God. Here it is of utmost importance to distinguish between
personal and positional equality with God. As to his person, Christ always was, is and will be
equal with God. It would be impossible for him to give up that. What positional equality is
different. From all eternity Christ was positionally equal with His Father enjoying the glories of
heaven. But he did not consider this position something that he had to hold onto at all cost. When
a world of lost mankind needed to be redeemed, he was willing to relinquish his positional
equality with God the comforts and joys of heaven. He did not consider them something that he
had to grasp forever and under all circumstances. Thus, he was willing to come into this world to
endure the contradictions of sinners against himself. God the father was never spit on or beaten
or crucified. [1.] Believers Bible Commentary PPg. 2007.
Coupled with, Holman New Testament Commentary says “The Old Testament law had
impressive ceremonies supported by centuries of tradition. It preserved an awareness of divine
holiness and revealed the need for atonement. Nevertheless, the repetition of offerings and
sacrifices on the annual Day of Atonement never brought the worshipers into a permanent
relationship with God. Why? Old Testament sacrifices reminded of sin but did not remove it.
Hebrews emphasizes that the Law was only a shadow of God’s good blessings and not the
reality. A shadow can never reveal its object, but it can provide an outline of reality. Whenever
the reality comes, the shadow is irrelevant. Because the Law was only a faint outline of the
glories of the coming gospel, it was a temporary element in God’s plan. [2.] Holman New
Testament Commentary PPg. 182.
As a result, Got question.org says “Remember, the holy God cannot let sin go
unpunished. To bear our own sins would be to suffer God’s judgment in the flames of hell. Praise
God, He kept His promise to send and sacrifice the perfect Lamb to bear the sins of those who
trust in Him. Jesus had to die because He is the only one who can pay the penalty for our sins .

https://www.gotquestions.org/ I believe Hebrews 9:22 gives the strongest affirmation of the
deity of Christ. I personally chose this verse in Hebrews 9:22 NRSV “Indeed, under the law
almost everything is purified with blood, and without the shedding of blood there is no
forgiveness of sins”.
https://www.gotquestions.org/
says “When Jesus came and offered up His
life—pouring out His blood on the cross—the perfect sacrifice had finally been made: “Just think
how much more the blood of Christ will purify our consciences from sinful deeds so that we can
