Ethical Decision-Making Name: Summer Arezzi Course: CWV-101 Date: 6/15/2023 Instructor: Dr.Llanes For questions 2-6, chose from the "Decision-Making Cases" document in the topic Resources. Use critical thinking as well as support from the topic Resources to answer the following prompts. Why do Christians believe that morality is absolute and objective, rather than relative and subjective? If morality is objective, where do Christians get their moral standard? Cite Chapter 7 of The Beginning of Wisdom textbook and/or topic overview. Include the resources you use on a reference page at the end of this document. Your answer in 75-100 words: One of the reasons Christians believe that morality is objective and absolute is because they believe that morality and ethics come straight from their God. They believe that these laws of morality are unbreakable or unchangeable because God gave them to them directly. They believe that God set these morals and ethics to help guide and love his followers. They believe that God made them in God's image so the rules of morals he set out will help us get a better relationship with him. “The Beginning of Wisdom: An introduction to christian worldview,” Diffey, D., & Holland, R. (Eds.). (2022). The beginning of wisdom: An introduction to Christian thought and life (5th ed.). Grand Canyon University. Chapter 7 Use the case you chose from the "Decision-Making Cases" document to answer the following questions to build the Christian ethical response. Use logical reasoning (general revelation). Cite Bible passages (special revelation), The Beginning of Wisdom textbook, and/or the topic overview. Include the resources you use on a reference page at the end of this document. Which case did you choose? Decision Of Life and Death In Chapter 2 of The Beginning of Wisdom textbook and the Topic 1 Overview, the elements of a worldview (ultimate reality, nature of the universe, humanity, knowledge, ethics, purpose) are presented. In the case you chose, which worldview element is going to be the biggest factor for determining right and wrong in the case you chose? Why? Your answer in 75-100 words:
I think the biggest part of the worldview I would use for this discussion would be purpose. Purpose is the belief that humanity has a purpose beyond this universe. It would help the question she would be asking such as: Why me? God had said that everyone is made in his likeness and has a purpose in this life. Matthew 28:19-20,”I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” This verse describe on how wheen ou live for for God he willl stick by your side for the rest of your life. I think this would be a really good talking point because it would show Janie that shes not alone. “The Beginning of Wisdom: An Introduction to christian Worldview,” Diffey, D., & Holland, R. (Eds.). (2022). The beginning of wisdom: An introduction to Christian thought and life (5th ed.). Grand Canyon University. Chapter 2 Keener, C. S. (2011). IVP New Testament commentary series: Matthew. IVP Academic. https://www.biblegateway.com/resources/ivp-nt/toc/ How does the Christian worldview describe the worldview element you identified? Your answer in 75-100 words: The part of Christian worldview I choose for the last question is purpose. I think it is the best one to relate to this situation between the argument of life and Death. I think that Christians worldview would use the meaning they believe as their purpose, which is to live in the footsteps of their savior to talk to Janie. What purpose means to christians is that their purpose was made from God. Some of the characteristics that Christians believe they get from their creator are: the capability to love, the capability to create for purpose or beauty, the ability to explore the universe. I think they would believe that even though something horrible happened to Janie that she still has a purpose in this universe. Topic Two overview CVW 101 Dr.Hector Llanes What are Bible passages (cite two or three) that will guide the ethics for the case you choose? How do these Bible passages apply to this case? Your answer in 75-100 words: Ethics in the Christian worldview are believed to be unchangeable and give to us out of the love of our creator. They believe that morals and ethics are absolute and objective. I can think of plenty of bible verses that prove my case on what the Christians Worldview would think about this situation. One example of a bible verse to help prove my case is:“ none has mastery of the day of death,” Ecclesiastes 8:8. This relates to this case as a direct quote against the fact of assisted suicide by medical or any ones hands. Another bible verse is Eccelsiastes,” Why should you die before your time?” This is important to christian worldview because it speaks to the fact that you shouldn’t die before your time. Both of these Bible verse speak to fact that killing yourself is a sin. These back up the fact that the Christian worldview is not ok with people taking anither life even it is their own. God in the
bible states many times that life is a gift. Keener, C. S. (2011). IVP New Testament commentary series: Ecclesiastes. IVP Academic. https://www.biblegateway.com/resources/ivp-nt/toc/ Based on your answers to b and c, explain the Christian response to the case you chose. In other words, how might the Christian worldview resolve the issue? Your answer in 75-100 words: Based on my previous answer regarding the case I chose for this assignment, I would think that the Christian Worldview would resolve this issue by explaining the subject of purpose of her life to her. They would explain the fact that God created them in his image and it means that everyone in this universe has a purpose in life. They would probably also inform her that there a serval Bible verse talking about how committing suicide or having someone help you is a sin and straying away from a relationship with God. They would also explain about the afterlife and how living through God can lead to an eternal life. Your previous responses built a Christian ethical stance and provided a Christian resolution for the case. How might this Christian resolution to the issue increase human dignity and human value? Your answer in 50-75 words: Continuing on the Chrsitan worldview stance on this life or death question in this situation, I believe this could increase Janie's human dignity and human value in thinking that she does still have a purpose even though she is paralyzed. I think another way it would increase her value and dignity by making her feel like she is not all alone. It would also increase it by showing her that there's more to this life than right now. The Christian position that humans should flourish comes from belief in the goodness of God. How so? What are the connections between God's goodness and human flourishing? Your answer in 50-75 words: The Christians believe that you can flourish from the relationship from God because he is said to show you the right way through life and answering the forever burning question: what is the purpose of being here and life? I think it is also that they believe that they can have someone to take through life and gain guidance and knowledge through. One bible verse that talks about flourishing through God is James 1:11-12,’ Blessed is the man who remains steadfast under trial, for when he has stood the test he will receive the crown of life, which God has promised to those who love him.” This verse is basically saying not ot hold on to material things but helping other will help bring you to a closer realtionship with God. This is showing how God wants you to be nice to all people and be less materistic in life.It is also stated in the ten commandments to love thy neighbors.
