ASSIGNMENT 3 (Instruction): Observe any instructional time in your assigned classroom, and record your observations when presented with the questions below: Instruction Question 1: Do you notice any transition schedules, token boards, or brain break cards, specific directions, posted in or around the classroom to enable children to keep track of their day? >>> No, was not. Instruction Question 2: Examine the teacher’s instruction for the use of instructional design options (individual, small and whole group teaching; teaching centers, co-teaching and parallel teaching). Explain all the instructional design options used in the instruction and how these designs meet the needs of students with an IEP. >>> Teaching is carried out in small groups, to provide more attention to the needs of the students. Also, students can work as a team and help each other. Instruction Question 3: Evaluate a classroom teaching lesson and identify the ingredients that are most important in crafting a good lesson plan that meets the needs of students with an IEP. >>> First, a lesson objective can be one of the most important components of a lesson plan. Objectives define what students will learn during the lesson and also explain how each student's learning will be assessed. Secondly, the teaching materials, what students will learn with and how this will help achieve the objectives. Finally, teaching strategies go in hand with the material because they have to match. How the student will learn the lesson and through what strategy and material. Instruction Question 4: Does the teacher incorporate the sensory modalities (learning styles)? If so, give examples. >>> No, she does not. Instruction Question 5: What Philosophical teaching orientation(s) best fit the teacher’s teaching style? Provide examples. >>> The teaching philosophy is to make each training session as interactive as possible. Make an interactive study plan to make it more fun for students. Use tactics like role-playing and competitive trivia games to get them working hard to win. Instruction Question 6: Explain the use of culturally relevant material, teach strategies, class decor, etc. to meet the needs of today’s culturally diverse student population. >>> The classroom has various decorations such as images, photos, and information relevant to diversity. Expressing that everyone is welcome.
Instruction Question 7: Do the students seem engaged in the lesson(s) that are being presented? Please explain. >>> Yes, each student participates in their own way, answering questions, providing extra information, asking questions, helping others with ideas, etc. Instruction Question 8: Are there any students isolated from the rest of the class for any reason? Why? >>> No there are not. Instruction Question 9: Is instructional time managed efficiently? Please explain. >>> Yes, the teacher has an elaborate schedule to make the most of her time. She has an alarm through her Apple Watch that rings from time to time letting her know that it is time to continue with the following activities. Instruction Question 10: How does the cooperating teacher handle transitions from one subject or period to another, and are these transitions efficient? >>> Yes, they are efficient because they provide the perfect time for each student to prepare their material, pay attention, understand the instructions, carry out the activity, ask questions if they need to, and at the end the teacher can review their results. Instruction Question 11: List ways that the teacher attempts any “attention getting” commands? (Ex: Countdown, Light flicker, Heads on Desk) How effective are they? >>> The teacher counts down, this way the students understand that it is time to pay attention, each student knows the consequences if they do not pay attention. The teacher only gives a maximum of three warnings, after that she begins to take away the (false) money that the students get every time they accomplish an activity. So, students usually listen to the first or second countdown because they don't want to lose the money. Instruction Question 12: Describe goth teacher and students use of technology in the classroom? >>> The only technology that uses is when reviewing letter names and sound, sight words, and blending videos in a Chromebook. Instruction Question 13: What specific behavior issues does the teacher have to deal with? How does the teacher deal with these behavior issues? Be specific. >>> Just having the students pay attention depends on the mood that the students bring, but normally it's
