Did you complete all the assigned reading for the week? [Yes ⃝ 2. Article of Faith Please identify the Article of Faith studied this week Response: We studied the 11th and 12th article of faith. 3. Explanation of Key Events and Scriptures Demonstrate your comprehension of fundamental truths of the restored gospel of Jesus Christ, and your ability to use the scriptures to teach them. Be sure to include specific scripture references from the assigned readings Scenario: Imagine you have been asked by a family member or friend to share what you believe about the truths and events you studied this week. Share in your own words several insights as though you are really trying to teach someone. Include at least three scripture references to support the truths you teach (you may reference them, but there is no need to quote them). Share your testimony as you would when teaching someone. Your response will be evaluated by the following criteria: 1. 200–300 words in length (please include your word count at the bottom of the section). 2. Include at least 3 scripture references . Response: Doctrine and Covenants 98:10 teaches us the importance of honoring and sustaining civil authority. It emphasizes the need for respect and obedience to the laws of the land, recognizing that governments play a vital role in maintaining
order and stability in society. This scripture reminds us of our duty to be law-abiding citizens and to show respect for those who hold positions of authority. Doctrine and Covenants 134 expands upon the principles outlined in Doctrine and Covenants 98:10 by addressing the relationship between government and religious freedom. It teaches us that governments should not interfere with religious beliefs and practices and that individuals have the right to worship according to their own conscience. This scripture emphasizes the importance of religious liberty and the need for governments to protect and preserve this fundamental right. These scriptures teach us valuable lessons about the role of civil authority and our responsibility as citizens. They remind us that while we are to be subject to and obey the laws of the land, we also have the right to exercise our religious beliefs freely. They provide guidance on how to navigate the balance between our civic responsibilities and our religious convictions. In my personal experience, living by these principles has brought me a sense of peace and harmony. By honoring civil authority and obeying the laws, I have found stability and contributed to the welfare of society. Simultaneously, knowing that I can worship according to my own beliefs without interference allows me to exercise my faith authentically and find spiritual fulfillment. I testify of the truthfulness of these principles and their application in our lives. They guide us in navigating the complexities of the world while preserving our religious freedom. As we strive to be obedient citizens and exercise our faith, we can find harmony, uphold righteous principles, and be a positive influence in our communities. Word Count: 313 4. Synthesis: Personal Relevance and Application to the Real World There are many serious challenges people encounter on a daily basis that are consequences of living in a fallen world. The gospel truths taught in the Articles of Faith have tremendous power to help people find answers, rise above problems, or simply feel God's love and concern for them again. Each week you will choose an issue (below) and think deeply about how the truths in that week’s Article of Faith can offer hope to those who are experiencing the problem. If you have another issue that particularly interests you, then choose your own: abortion
