The welfare state is developed around maintaining health through financial needs. Moving forward into the future of the welfare state it would be crass to think that in terms of classical liberalism each person is given the same opportunities of health to achieve the same goals in life. With the expansion of science, it has given the world and, Canada, more ways than ever to diagnose health conditions that can be debilitating from as early as being in utero. Classical liberalism fiercely follows the notion of not being controlled in any such way by the government and are free to do as they please without causing direct harm to another. Therefore, the future of the welfare state will need to lead with the ideology of reform liberalism. Reform liberalism proceeds with the expansion of programs with the goal of reaching equal chances for succession in life for all. The social programs set in place, including welfare, are to provide Canada as a whole with the basic human rights of having financial means for food, shelter, and clothing. Diving deeper into the welfare state and reform liberalism, the programs set up by the state are to encourage without force a healthy lifestyle for all. Some of these programs include prenatal education for mothers, counselling services for dealing with death and dying, safe housing for domestic abuse and many others. All these programs serve some level of protection in their own ways provided by the government. To double down on why the ideology of classical
liberalism moving forward for the welfare state and policy change is unfit, is that now more than ever are we seeing the need to support other groups in society for the greater good, such as, the BLM movement and, LQBTQ2S+. The view of classical liberalism lends itself to the question of, why should I help you when I am trying to help myself (POLS 403 Welfare module)? This type of mindset is not being carried forward into our future based on societal reactions. To think that each person is capable of achieving the same solely based on biology is impossible. Some are biologically born male or female which places different health condition possibilities,
