Candidate and Political Party Details Priorities, Promises and Key Messages Justin Trudeau the leader of the Liberal party Climate change - The Liberals say that by 2030, Canada's greenhouse gas emissions would be 40 to 45 percent lower than they were in 2005, due to a national carbon price and other actions. They had earlier stated that they will reduce emissions by 30% by that date. The Liberals enacted C-12, a climate plan that sets legally bound carbon goals for 2050, with the goal of reaching net-zero emissions. They have committed to ensuring that the oil and gas sector decreases emissions at the rate required to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050, with five-year goals. Mandatory Vaccines - Before the election, the Liberals declared that COVID-19 vaccines would be made mandatory for federal employees in the fall, and some workers in federally regulated industries such as airlines and railways. Commercial air travellers, interprovincial train passengers, and big marine vessels with overnight cabins will also be required to get vaccinated. They plan to invest $1 billion to assist provinces and territories in creating proof-of-vaccination badges for non-essential companies and public areas in their regions. Jobs - Liberals promised to create one million jobs in last September's throne speech and the spring budget. They promise to go "beyond" one million jobs in their electoral plan. They've suggested extending the Canada Recovery Hiring Program until March 31, and providing up to 75% pay and rent help to the hard-hit tourism industry to get them through the winter. They vow to increase COVID-related insurance coverage for media stoppages by 150,000 jobs. Erin O'Toole the leader of the Conservative party Climate Change - The Conservatives rejected the Liberals' net-zero proposal and claim that their climate plan will fulfil Paris climate targets of 30% below 2005 levels by 2030. They would repeal the Liberal carbon pricing system and replace it with one that includes a consumer carbon tax of $50 per cent. Instead of rebates, money collected under the Conservative carbon pricing system would be redirected to "Personal low carbon savings accounts," which would be used by individuals to purchase "Green" products. On major industrial emitters, the party wants to keep the current output-based pricing system in place. Mandatory Vaccines - Conservatives will not insist on COVID-19 vaccination for federal employees and visitors. Non vaccinated public employees would instead have to pass a daily quick test. Before boarding a plane, train, bus, or ship, Canadian visitors would have to pass a quick test or show proof of a recent negative test result. Jobs - If elected, the Conservatives also pledge to create one million jobs. Their platform includes a “Canada Job Surge Plan,” which promises to pay up to 50% of new workers' salaries for the first six months after the emergency wage
support is phased out, as well as loans of up to $200,000 for small and medium businesses in the hotel, marketing, and tourism industries. They also plan to increase the Canada Workers Benefit by a factor of two. Jagmeet Singh the leader of the New Democrat Party Climate Change - The New Democrats approved the Liberals' net-zero proposal and have set a goal of reducing emissions by 50% by 2030 compared to 2005 levels. They promise to take out fossil fuel subsidies and “set a goal of net carbon-free electricity by 2030, with a goal of 100% non-emitting electricity by 2040.” The NDP also proposes spending $26 billion to deal with climate change and help employees who may be forced to leave polluting industries like oil and gas. Mandatory Vaccines - The NDP proposes mandatory vaccinations of federally-regulated attendants and employees. It asked for a mandatory vaccine plan and a public vaccine passport to be established before Labor Day throughout the event. Jobs - In addition, the New Democratic Party has pledged to make one million new jobs in its first term through "bold investments" in public transportation, community infrastructure, low cost housing, resources refits, and other topics. Maxime Bernie the leader of the People's party Climate Change -According to the People's Party platform, there is "no scientific consensus" that human activity is causing climate change, and that warnings of coming environmental disaster are overstated. The party would remove Canada out of the Paris Climate Agreement and reject what it considers "unrealistic" greenhouse gas reduction targets. They would reject the Liberal carbon pricing regime and pass it to provinces to adopt programs as they see fit. As a result of "any natural climate change," the party promises to participate in adaptation techniques. Mandatory Vaccines - The People's Party Platform objects to government officials' and federally controlled industry vaccination requirements and regular testing. It would remove passengers' vaccination passports, reject similar restrictions forced by provinces, and "help people and organisations challenging such laws in court." Jobs - The People's Party claims that by decreasing taxes for all companies, it can create higher-paying employment. Over the course of one term, they vow to reduce the corporate tax rate from 15% to 10%. Annamie Paul the leader of the green party Climate Change -Despite their criticisms of the government's net-zero bill, Green MPs voted to approve of it. The party claims it would develop "clear" and "enforceable" targets and timelines by 2023 in order to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 60% below 2005 levels by 2030. If successful, the party would ban pipeline construction, prohibit fracking, and set tariffs on imports from countries with weak climate policy. It would also end fossil fuel subsidies and demand that federal public investment funds sell from the industry. They offer a specific carbon budget to prevent global
