From what I had gotten in the description above, the reason Congress was against reclassifying the bat species as “threatened species” was due to the population’s levels decline. The description above stated that the species was reclassified to be endangered and then wanted to be reclassified later as a joint resolution to be threatened under the Endangered Species Act. I am assuming the reason Congress would be against is the results of that, the back and forth of population level declines within a short amount of time. As to agreeing or disagreeing with the change of listing status made by Congress, in my opinion, I personally think they have a valid reason. There are organizations and programs that overuse their power to affect the public, by having higher authority they can rule necessary outcomes. 1 In my opinion, I do not think the Congress should have the authority to change the listing status of species. But I do see the reason they are put in high authority. But I do think there are some congress members particularly not deep in depth on some information, meaning if not an expert or knowledgeable enough there are outcomes. I do think other federal agencies who are acknowledged and have credibility should have some authority for change. As they will likely have knowledge and information on the factors of the matter but more in depth. With federal agencies to the factors of U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, they can consult on a deeper basis and will not further any actions that can impact all parties. 3 I would not recommend President Biden to approve the resolution. I do agree with the veto. President Biden gave great facts that supports why he should not approve on relisting the species from endangered to threaten. As the species are a important factor to biodiversity and to the economy, if changes were to occur and challenge the Endangered Species Act there are many risks to hold. 2 References: (1) Editorial Board.
