Question:
In Vivien A. Schmidt’s writing, “Adapting to Europe: Is it Harder for Britain?”
the author discusses the European Union and how its policies and procedures
have affected four specific nation-states: Britain, Germany, France, and Italy.
The writing details in great length the difficulties Britain faced by being part
of the European Union. Some of these difficulties discussed included the
adoption of European policies in areas of security, defense, economics,
telecommunications, environment, air transportation, and more. Besides
policies, the author further discussed difficulties and concerns regarding the
difference in governmental structuring between the Union and Britain as it
disrupted the traditional balance of power the nation had. A primary part of
the writing focused on comparing these issues between other nations in the
union, which I previously listed. Considering the author's writing, between
Germany, Britain France, and Italy, which of these four nations faced the
most political difficulties adapting to the changes expected by being part of
the European Union in your opinion? Additionally, the United Kingdom has
since left the European Union in 2020 (Brexit). You may include more recent
points of discussion beyond the author's writing if you know of any. Either to
introduce alternative points of discussion not mentioned or to expand on
points the author discussed.
