The EU Soufiane El Mesbahi Keiser University International Entrepreneurship Professor George Stamas January 25, 2024
Given the security concerns of both the EU and Russia, where should EU’s eastern border end? Do you think the buffer states should become NATO members as well? Why or Why not? - the EU's eastern border should end at Poland, or in a more straightforward format, where it is currently. Going further than that might lead to a significant conflict with Russia and the NATO countries. The EU's goal to reach neighboring states is a really positive trend, but it's important to recognize that there are restrictions since these red lines serve a function. One of the main objectives of the EU's formation was to promote peace, therefore entering into accords that can lead to conflict would seem to go against that purpose. - According to the buffer, this party should stay away from entering into both agreements at the same time since there may be a dispute with issues pertaining to rights, responsibilities, and rules that they will have a membership claim to. Additionally, it has been stated by EU and NATO standards that a state or nation engaged in a civil war is not eligible for admission to either organization. Since the purpose of these treaties is to bring nations together rather than to split them, the best plan of action for these governments would be to choose one and stick with it in order to avoid any misunderstandings or conflicts.
